GAE Installer Released!
« on: 30 September 2009, 18:48:24 »
Long post short, heres the GAE installer. It's for windows, but should work on any other OS with an emulator. It fully installs GAE and if you wish, FPM.

Will upload installer files once I get the chance (must convert to relative links, keep forgetting!).

I got "The application failed to initialize properly (0xc0150002). Click on OK to terminate the application." I also tried Silnarm's download and it did the same.

Some points about the install:
- It could use some more explanation of what is included in the full and minimal installs.
- Launching at the end doesn't work. (no error)
- Unistall asked 3 times if i wanted to uninstall.

Does it install the mini data package?

Hailstone, did you install the mini data package with the source-forge download?

It makes no difference. My own build works so I think it's the exe, although it was with the glgooey branch.

No sorry Elim, for Linux you have to use an emulator, or install it manually.

Hmm, try the new version and see if it works:

http://www.filefront.com/14643063/Glest%20Advanced%20Engine%200.2.12a%20Setup.exe

I tested and double tested this one. I certify that it worked for me and my dads computers (both Vista, I don't have anything else to test on). I fixed a deskop link error, where I forgot to specify the working directory. I converted all links to relative, and will post the installer file soon.

The uninstall asked 3 times?!? I'm stumped. It should only ask once, and it did that for me. The full install includes FPM, the minimal install only includes the needed parts for standard GAE (perhaps should change it to be 'With FPM' and 'Without FPM'). Are you SURE that launching at the end doesn't work? I tested that, and it simply runs the program executable in the command line.

Big question: what OS's are you all using? I can't certify emulators will work. I WILL release a linux version once someone tells me what I need. I assume it only needs an extensionless binary file and NO DLLs.

Does it install the mini data package?
What mini data package?!?

EDIT//
Everyone who wants to build their own installer based on this with installjammer can use this:
http://www.filefront.com/14643089/GAE%200.2.12a%20Installer%20Files.7z
They are all the files including the GAE files, all relative. Worked for me, should for you.

Nice work! :)

Whenever we get a working installer, I would like to import this into subversion and then integrate it into our release process.

What? Seriously?!? Feed me data. Os, 32 or 64 bit, graphics card, etc; I personally am not sure if its my installer. I remember you mentioning it not working for you when you tried it the copy and paste method. Does your computer have open GL? Does older versions of GAE work?

Go to glest.codemonger.org and download v0.2.11. It's an older version. If it doesn't work too, then I think something is wrong with your computer, though what exactly I don't know...

Well for right now, I just gotta do other stuff, I don't have time to fiddle around with GAE, I need somethin gthat works now, or I don't have the time, yet.

I just looked at the installer files, I thought you had to put some code somewhere....

Ok, I just tried the installer on my Moms computer GAE does the same thing.

Whoa, triple posting!!! Ease up!

I don't think that it has anything to do with the installer. If all the files appeared fine, and the installer didn't burst out any errors, it must be a GAE error. Glest isn't very compatible. Even vanilla glest doesn't run on my dad's or mom's computers. Most likely they don't have OpenGL or DirectX. I noticed that after reinstalling vista, I can't play GAE right now, so I think I need to download the newest OpenGL and DirectX ASAP. You should too.
