Download Problems?
« on: 24 October 2009, 17:09:43 »
Hello, everyone. New around here... I saw Glest off of CNET while looking for a fun game to play, and I saw that it's got a fairly big community of people who make mods and things like that -- so I was pretty interested.

CNET only has the 3.1 version on their site, so I've been trying to download it off the download mirror that this website has from Sourceforge. Last night while trying to download, it got to about 32MB, and then stopped and considered itself done. Now when I click on the executable file to run, it says "The setup files are corrupted. Please obtain a new copy of the program."

I tried to download it again afterwards, and every time after that, it doesn't download at all -- it just comes up as if it is finished downloading, and I continue to get the same message. Any ideas...?

Thanks in advance!

You can download the current version (3.2.2) here: http://glest.org/en/downloads.php

It's got a few fancy new features that 3.1 didn't have, like more advanced scenario scripting.

Are you using a download manager of some kind?  Something like Get Right or Download Accelerator Plus will let you resume downloads.  If you're using Firefox as your browser, I recommend the extension called "DownThemAll!" which acts as a download manager and accelerator build right into your browser.

I tried to download it again afterwards, and every time after that, it doesn't download at all -- it just comes up as if it is finished downloading, and I continue to get the same message. Any ideas...?
I think what's happening here is that your computer sees the file that you already downloaded, so when you try to download it again, it thinks "I already have that file right here!"  You could try clearing your temporary files and your download history.  That might help.

I've tried clearing out my Cache files and Download history using CCleaner. I use Google Chrome, by the way. I do have Firefox as well though, so I think I'll give that a try with the extension you recommended. Thanks again!
