Where to get models for glest?
« on: 25 October 2009, 04:33:46 »
Is there a site where you can download small models for glest? I have "rage" alot and I find it very difficult to learn how to use blender just to make my own models.

Does everyone model their own? Or get them from some site?

No, we either model them from scratch, download a free model from whereever we can, and mess around with it, or we simply download one of the glest .obj's that Tucho posted.
There are probably a few more options but I generally model people off glest models, and building from scratch.

Ok. I might try to modify some models myself since I am still new to blender

A little help:
Duplicate: Shift-D
Extrude: CTRL-Click
Join objects: CTRL-J
To create a new object: hold a right click until a menu appears:
add>mesh> then select what you want to add, and then it will prompt you asking you how many vertices you want in it, and stuff like the size.
IMPORTANT: For Conversion into g3d format, all faces need to be triangles. To achieve this: go into edit mode, select everything(A), and then CTRL-T.

You said you get current existing models and edit them???

I think it was you who made the romans faction which I liked :)

1 Question, how did you model the cavalry man? I need to use the body and walking animation for my centaur faction.

Well I have no time to wait :P

I don't think I can edit models well.... If only blender was easier then I would try but blender to me is "made to piss of the user" and I find it difficult to use it.

Also shortcuts I would probably forget them lol

Modeling, using blender interface. If only blender were so simple then I would use it. I also find it hard to rotate the camera and moving my view aswell

How is moving the view hard all you do is hold the middle mouse button and move the mouse..........

As for the camera, just get the right orientation, select the camera and rotate away.

Also you can use the g3d importer since it contains the uv maps which are much better than the obj
