Poll

Should the GLADE Team branch into other projects like tech-trees, maps and tilesets?

Yes.  I see no problems.
Only one at a time.
No.  GLADE should only do factions.
There should be another branch, but maybe with differing leadership.
Leave it up to the active GLADE members (Mark, John.d.h., Titi, Modman)
Whatever Modman wants!
No because I couldn't bear progress to be any slower.

Vote it out.  I'll leave a month of discussion, and that's how long the poll runs.  You can change your vote, and this space should be used to convince others of your opinions.

I'll start talking later, and if this topic dies, I'll assume no one wants Glade to change.

I have no problem with GLADE doing different projects, but I'd rather we only had one going on at a time because that's the best way to get things done in my opinion.  This is especially true right now, since Dark Magic is (kinda) close to completion.

Yes finishing things is the most important thing! Its the biggest problem ( for me too ) to finish something what is nearly done.

Does anyone have any objections to me leading the branch?

Also does anyone have any objections to converting my GMD branch topic?

Well that is if people vote to branch out.

I say you can part if you wish, but should only do one thing at a time or you'll never finish. Complete DM BEFORE you go on to anything else.

There seems to be plenty of teams but not much is being accomplished.

In Texas they call it "all hat and no cattle".

I'm not quite sure how it should work, because some people have totally different skills, and at least a benefit of having simultaneous projects is that more skills can be utilized.

Maybe have just one more branch, but they will only work with tilesets?  Tilesets are more time consuming than maps I think, and would probably be more suited to a team effort.  Map packs would also be an option, I guess, with everyone working on their map...

Of course the branches would be mutually exclusive so that mod people could continue with only mods.

Dark Magic should be finished before anything is changed because that will at least stall the anarchy. ;)

GLADE is all about "development enthusiasts", not factions - if everyone recalls. It's nothing against that goal to do other things, but as has already been pointed out, only one project should be active. When a project is released at 100%, something else can be selected by the team. At this point, unless GLADE drops DM, any tilesets or other productions should be specifically related to DM. A tileset that comes with DM, made to complement it, wouldn't be amiss.

Just my thoughts.

On another thought about selecting projects, I'd recommend a couple of small projects between the large ones to offset the long, slow development times. Big projects tend to run together and wear on the team. Completion is good for stress reduction.

Well, maps aren't really a "project", but a map pack is, how about a map pack to go with Dark Magic, but it would be done after DM is completed.

Agreed.  I initially proposed Dark Magic because it was supposed to be a "small project" (when compared to making a whole tech tree) to get us started, since a lot of the work was already done and it would give everyone an early taste of success.  Obviously, it has turned out to be a lot bigger than we all expected.

lol i think everyone's production rate just crashed to a grinding halt , i mean it has two new units cause of one guy that isn't even associated with it , so i think the production of everyone just stopped

Uggh.  Right now I have a giant science project, but when I finish I will upload my imp progress for all to see and critique.

Glade was never only about factions, I seem to recall someone saying something about a map pack and a tileset. This could just have been wishful thinking by me, but the real reason we are working on only DM is that we have never finished.  After we finish DM, we may start work on another faction, do one of the other options, or (I hope this doesn't happen) fall apart.

Well, if my opinion counts for anything, it all depends, I guess...

Firstly on what:
What, like a completely separate thing from the current GLADE project? Erm... in that case... why? Do it if you want, don't do it if you don't - where's the connection?
Or something to be integrated with Dark Magic (specific maps, tilesets, scenarios, ...)?

Then on who:
Should the currently active members in GLADE / Dark Magic do maps, scenarios and tilesets?
Or someone else, maybe someone more inclined to make such things? I mean, if someone not currently involved in the faction can do something for the faction, I guess that'd be great! And they don't really need to have same deadlines, do they?... I'm thinking adding "extras" to DM...

Next, how?
How will a different project (not) integrate with DM? If to be related to Dark Magic, then decide:
Will DM require that "extra"? Map, scenario, whatever? (currently, DM is supposed to integrate with Magitech, hence Glest's default maps and tilesets but...)
Maybe DM development can prosue at its own pace and later (or sooner! lol) something for DM added...?

And last but not least: When?
I guess this completely depends on the former three questions...
If it's something for DM and how does it relate do DM? Who'll be making it?
Also, sometimes, for some people, creativity flows better if you can wonder away for a while and then come back (can actually be quicker but that all depends on each individual - and there is a group in GLADE!). So, who will be doing it?
And all WHEN? :P

My 2 cents worth! ;)
