The ground texture needs way more variation.  I like how you used space to signify water (I'm assuming that's what that's for), but the shallow water ends up looking weird, like the ground is just kinda fading away at the edges.  I think using canyons would be a better option.  Also, the craters stick out of the ground way too much.  Sure, the edges of a crater are a little higher than that area around it, but the rest is much deeper.  Basically, what you've got there is the opposite of a crater.

Birds on the moon  :o :o :o??
I think you need some other (spacy)background sounds.

Go to www.freesound.org and create an account there. Search there for "space ambient" and find you sound .... You will need your account to contact the author of the sound you choose and ask him for permission to use it with another license (Best is to ask him for Creative Commons v3 and GPL permissions ). I will send you a private message showing the way I ask there ....
( what about one of these? http://www.freesound.org/packsViewSingle.php?id=2476 )

When you have your sound, edit it using audacity and lower/rise its volume to the right level and save it as ogg.
( I still would keep wolf and chicken sounds to indicate day start and night start although its a bit starnge on the moon)

And for the ground tiles, john is right, the ground texture needs way more variation.
But all in all this will give a nice feeling to the moon faction!

Very unique and ambitious tileset Elimnator. Monochrome themes can be a difficult medium to work with - especially for video games. US filmmakers, during the 1940's, didn't have the luxury of using color film stock on every studio film production but they had one clear advantage over modern indie game designers -the innovative use of lighting. The result was film noir productions - many of them were low budget with poor production values - but others survived.... most notably Casablanca and Citizen Kane. Modern color film-noir (future noir) examples include Blade Runner and Dark City.

Maybe you can control lighting using visual coding tricks or day/night value setting in the XNL code.

Have you ever seen screenshots of the indie game Darwinia? The darwinia developers achieved something quite interesting by fusing 8bit sound fx with visual homages to old video games and the Disney film Tron.

Nice work.

Edit: Space sounds - Vangelis/synth music fits space themes, those funny old 1950's sounds that accompany Sputnik satellite black and white film stock animations (beep.. beep.. beep) and submarine sonar sounds .. ping ... ping... ping and even the goofy star trek 1960's computer sounds. very funny.

Note: No 4- Bush object? just checking since it didn't render on my map.

Did you notice my "tutorial" for resynthesizer? This shows how to create these similar looking but different tiles .
If you already have a tiling texture you should start here: http://www.titusgames.de/resynthesize_tut/007-07-seamless_tiled.jpg.html

Just a short feedback:
- The water really looks good :)
- The texture repetitions are still a bit visible but much better now. Only surface5a still has this repetitions.
- The new background sound is a bit too loud, lower it a bit.
- .svn directories made this tileset a bit bigger  ;D ;D

An idea for the spikes!
If you put a transpareny plane on the ground and paint some earth cracks on it, the spikes will look like they are comming out of the earth.

Maybe something like this helps http://www.burningwell.org/gallery2/v/textures/otherTextures/TT7002241.JPG.html
