Christmas Tileset
« on: 7 November 2009, 17:29:06 »
i was bored, so i made this tileset.  it resembles the Winter tileset (what i based it off of), but there is a feel of festive-ness to it.

It would look better if i could get my hands on new models (like presents or a statue of Santa)

http://www.mediafire.com/download.php?m2hylgm2wwr

this is my first tileset, and i hope you like it

Candy canes! Change the dead body objects into candycanes, gold boulders into presents, and the statues into huge nutcracker guard things.

I'm bored. I'll model a candy cane, and some presents!

I'll try to texture these, although I've never successfully textured..........anything.

the gold should be red presents with gold/yellow bows and stone should be blue presents with green bows...

Zoythrus, I think I'll only try to texture the Candy Cane.
I'll also export itto G3D so you can just stick it right in.

It might be easier to texture it if you unwrap it as a rectangle, and then bend the model into the shape you want.

God, texturing seems to be a pain in the ass, is there any way that I can just color the model, and then save that as a .tga or something, if not, then I will try your unwrapping idea...

Actually I'm just going to make the model, someone else can texture them, since they will be very low poly they shouldn't be anything to an experienced texturer.

Hey Elim, I just made some very low-poly ones, go ahead and bump the polys up a little(your choice), and texture them.

Hmm, I must admit, this could use a bit more work (no offense). Firstly, dead bodies are done in the TECH TREE, not the tileset and no body is going to want to modify that (pain in the ass to change back). Same thing for resources like gold and stone. So what do you plan to do with those models? Statues should be fun though! We can have a nativity scene and a santa, and so on...

Trees should be done with modified evergreen trees instead, or at least make the lights look more realistic. Also, a 'glow' effect to the lights will go a long way. You can make the candy cane's the small stones. Perhaps you can think of other ways to fit the stuff in well.

Omega, keep in mind, that i am a horrible texturer, so that's why the lights look cheesy. and i used the winter forest trees because they have snow on them...

and why cant the gold and stone have different models? the Moon tileset messed with the trees...

I made an update to two of the tree textures.

As you can see in the pic, I added yellow and gave decorations a simple glow.

The glow is nice, but the lights are pretty huge. Could you make them smaller?

I think they are large, but not too big.

They are actually the same size as the original lights, you're just seeing the strong glow around the light as part of the light. Look at the texture, maybe that will help you see what I'm talking about.
