Something's wrong with the site... (for me)
« on: 25 November 2009, 09:08:15 »
Hello, I am new to this forum, but before I will know what's wrong with something I said, let me introduce myself:

My name is Carl, I am a fan of RTS games, since I stumbled to a directory of games, I have found this! I liked your mods, maps and tilests, even your advanced engine, and liked even the whole game! Now I enjoy this game whenever I want to play, (as I also play other games).

Now for my problem:

When I go to glest.codemonger.org , the website doesn't show up! Why is this?

Thanks! ;)
Thanks!  ;)

Yes, it's all my fault!  First, there was a hardware problem on the server that turned out to be the memory timings.  That's now fixed, but the RAID array got hosed.  So in the process of troubleshooting that, I discovered a SATA cable that is (maybe) bad, so I'm waiting for new (higher quality) SATA cables and then I'm going to go through the recovery process.  However, I'm out of town now, so it will have to wait until after the 2nd of December, sorry!

Well, until then, is there anyway to get FPM without using Omega's 2.12a installer, and then taking the FPM files from the installation.

This is the only way so I can download the Military Techtree.

Thanks! ;)

Edit: Do you have a direct download for the engine? Thanks!

Not really...but you can use these:

32 bit Windows binaries

32 bit Linux binaries

Package of GAE data

But, if Martino would allow HTML in posts, we could use this code, and it would be a direct download link...:

Code: [Select]
<a href="http://downloads.sourceforge.net/project/glestae/glestae_binaries_win32/0.2.12b/glestadv-win32-0.2.12b.zip?use_mirror=voxel" class="direct-download">32 bit Windows binaries</a>
The stuff colored red is what does the trick.

Thanks!

Download the Windows binary, and the data package, and extract them both to: "C:\Program Files\Glest_3.2.2\". Allow it to overwrite anything it has to...
Then when it's done, go ahead and double click on the GAE 0.2.12b executable!

What doesn't work?

Are you sure you have a archiving utility that can extract .tgz files?

Yes, I use PeaZip, then I only got one file on both archives.

Thanks! ;)

A tgz file is TWO files! There's the original gzip archive, and the tar file. This is why sometimes people prefer to use a double extension such as .tar.gz so that once its unziped once, they see they hav to do it again to extract the tar file. Tar files are methods of storing files so that gzip/bzip2 can compress them.

There should be a folder with dozens of files and other folders in a nice (sometimes) neat structure.

BTW: I stronly recommend you use 7zip. It's easier. Simply right click, 7zip > extract here.

Thanks!  ;)

7zip opens every archive!
And it allows you to compress to .7z!

We don't need to argue about which archive manager to use, as long as his can extract .tar and .gz.

Carl the Great, all you have to do is extract the .tgz file, and when it's done, you extract the file that came out. If the file isn't able to be loaded, you'll have to try 7zip or something else.

Nevermind, found a way, you need to rename it and add .zip so it turns to a .zip archive.

Now, should I download the FPM?

Thanks! ;)

You had to rename it? That's strange. Do you have any idea why you did? Did you accidentally write one of the packages over the .tgz?

Now, should I download the FPM?

I dunno, if you wanna see the capabilities of GAE (some of them, at least), then definitely.

I compiled the files to the Glest folder, still not working? Is there other things needed?

Thanks! ;)

I have no clue what the problem could be. D'you think you could post a screenshot of your Glest folder?

Perhaps you could just get the GAE installer Hailstone made, though.

There is no screenshot, but actually when I click the glestadv.exe, (I already compiled the files) it won't open, then immediately an error sound then, not yet open.

Thanks! ;)
Thanks!  ;)

That's cause you don't have a gae folder in the glest main folder. The gae should contain the files from the GAE sf site (or get the 0.2.12b exe with the data that way you don't have to worry about not having everything)

What do you mean compile all the files in one folder, please give me the exact and clear demonstration where to compile each of the files.

Thanks!  ;)
Thanks!  ;)
