OT: Hectate's 48 Hour Game Design Challenge
« on: 30 January 2010, 18:55:45 »
OK, this has nothing to do with anything here, except that we like games.

I'm challenging myself to create a new game design every 48 hours and have it posted on my website within that same timeframe. So, from now until whenever I give up, I'll have a new design every other day. You can see the concepts and designs at http://www.netlate.com. Additionally I've created a twitter account to function as an RSS feed of the updates. I'll "tweet" whenever a new one is posted. You should be able to follow the feed or RSS it to receive updates. You can find it at http://www.twitter.com/dothectate

Please send me emails with ideas and suggestions, you are also welcome to post here, obviously :D

It's like playing Tetris, the challenge isn't to "win", but to keep it up as long as possible. I'm going for a high score!

lol oky well do you know how to work with a webcam , caz if you do got an idea which i am also going to try .

The aim of the game is to make running fun like tetris it wont hav an end  .
You take the webcam set it up on a treadmill so that the cam points to the belt
then program the cam to hav an fps of 60 or 30 depends on how good the cam is .
then get colored strips and put them on the treadmilll.
oky now cumes the part were i strugled abit  . Program the webcam so that it
can reconize the strips. now its just timing and putting abit of 3d animation into it.
The time difference between each strip will determan the speed of the character in the 3d
universe ( the animation speed ).

O and in wat langauge are you writing

Well, first this is a personal challenge, so I'm not seeking outside ideas. The goal is to help myself learn to design games. I'm always glad to help others though.

First, you've gotten a goal: Make running fun (a good one, I hate running just for the sake of exercise). But the PLAYER does not have one yet. What is going to make the player have fun while running? Seeing a 3D model superimposed over the image of themselves? Having the technical ability to do this does not make it a game or any other form of entertainment.

Now, if you had a system to translate the player's speed into some ingame state (speed, stamina, score, etc) that would be a start.

And additionally, design two is posted. Check out Cubicle Crop-duster!
