How to make one big techtree?
« on: 11 February 2010, 14:09:38 »
Hi, I wanna take the factions from megapack and the vbros packs and put them into one techtree, so that any of them could fight any of them. Tried it before, but there was some sort of bug, and the game wouldn't start. Can somebody please give me step by step instructions/

This is only possible with GAE or Megaglest, I'm quite shure that normal glest with more than 8 factions will crash most computers with an out of Memeory error. And it will kill the user too with endless loading times.

To make it work look at the techtree specific xmls ( magitech.xml or megapack.xml .....). They include some info about ressources and so on. Everything of all techtrees must be included in one new combined techtree. Maybe you have a chance to make it work with this.
But there are also things in it which affects the balance of the factions. So maybe its not so easy to get a good result when merging everything!
Try Megaglest! Improved Engine / New factions / New tilesets / New maps / New scenarios

Okay then, I have both GAE and Megaglest installed, how do I use them? Where do I put them in the glest file? Please give me step-by-step instructions.

Just a bit of advice before you get stuck in. There are only 5 available "tech" resource types (gold, stone etc). More than this and you will have a problem since there will be not more available slots.
Check out my new Goblin faction - https://forum.megaglest.org/index.php?topic=9658.0

Dammit, so how do I put all of the factions into one techtree?

For example, if you want to put the factions dark_magic and elves in the same folder, you need to find your Glest directory go to techs, create a new tech folder (newtech, for example), and drop the dark_magic and elves folders (these folders hold their entire respective factions) in there.  So put the faction folders in:

Glest > techs > newtech

Next, you need to copy the magitech.xml file (the file that holds the attack type and armor ratios) into newtech, and rename it newtech.xml

You should be good to go, unless some of the damage multipliers the factions use are not in the xml file, in which case you need to basically merge them together.  If you crash, it will be because of this.  If so, try to see if you can figure out how to merge them together.

And BTW guys, Raikuron is new to these parts, so let's at least stay on topic, if not greet him, like this: "Welcome to the forums, Raikuron!"  or "Happy Glesting!".

BTW Raikuron, happy Glesting!  I hope you find Glest as fun a game to play and mod as I do.

Make sure the xml for the units have the same attack type and defense type as the one in magictech.xml
