[SOLVED] How to re-export imported G3D texture?
« on: 11 February 2010, 17:33:09 »
Hi folks!

So, this is the situation:
1. You imported some textured .g3d model into Blender with the Scripts->Wizzards->Import/Export G3D.
2. You optionally (but I always do) remove the shapekeys, so you can unlimmitedly edit the meshes.
3. You edit the objects/meshes (e.g. rescale them, for which you don't actually need step 2).
4. The model looks as you want it and the Textured viewport correctly displays it textured.
5. You export the model using the Scripts(or File)->Export->Export to G3D (script version 1.1).
6- You look at the exported G3D. The model has been correctly modified but it is untextured...

How do you fix this so the model keeps the original (unchanged) texture when exported?  ???

Sorry if it's a silly question but I coulnd't find an answer after searching the boards... :(

Thanks in advance :)

Dude, whether it displayed as textured or not in Blender doesn't matter, that model is untextured, it is unwrapped, but the texture isn't attached to it, you have to attach the texture.

Geez, good, at least is is unrwaped!  ;D
I was looking at the UV/Image Editor from the Object view and it  showed nothing but a square with smaller squares in it.

I've now switched to Edit view and selected everything. I can now see the textures in the UV/Image Editor mode.
How do I attach the texture? (sorry, I don't have that much time to learn the answers myself nowadays... :( ).

Thanks anyway. I'm looking at the moding bible by Omega right now. If I can figure it out in the next 7 minutes, it's good. ;D

EDIT: Omega's guide server went down as I was scrolling it... :(
Oh well... some other day... :P

Thanks John. I went to that one too, as I was waiting for Omega's site to resolve, but it dind't work. I'll try it again later though.

Thanks :)

EDIT:
I'd managed to get Omega's excelent guide (actually downloaded the whole site now, just in case :P) but I still couldn't get it to work...
... Til I found this: https://forum.megaglest.org/index.php?topic=4855.msg35720#msg35720
That post is actually incomplete (for my purpose) and I couldn't have done it without having read the wikia and the guide first but this little sentence:
Quote
in the UV/Image Editor select the wall texture
made all the difference! I'd selected the whole mesh and the texture borders had lightened up, so I thought it was selected... After pressing "a" in the UV Editor... it all went pink and from there on, I just had to do what I'd done before...
