Hi,

I just wanted to ask what the latest GAE news are.

Is Glest 3.2.2 fully ported to GAE?
Are the plans to make GAE the new official Glest still followed (or is it already the official "successor")?
What is the progress on the GAE website?
Are there any future plans already (like graphics update, feature additions, ...)?

Thank you.

Currently there is an "Attempt" to pool the effort of all development in GAE. Should this prove successful, then yes GAE will be the ongoing glest effort. This is a "trial" to see if everyone can work together and if we all feel GAE is stable enough for use by the masses (some like myself don't yet feel confident that it is, but we don't know for sure).

So likely more will follow in the next week or so.

At least thats my opinion as one of the devs.

Yes, but there are some bugs to be worked out, mainly multiplayer but some single player too.

Nothing so far unless you count using trac.

There's always things we'd like to do but it's mainly bug fixing for now. Have a look at All Tickets By Milestone

Thanks for your answers. It's nice to see that there is ongoing development.

Is there already a nice-to-read changelog with the changes from Glest 3.2.2 to GAE (what is different/new when I switch from Glest to GAE)?
Bundling all resources and developers would be great. I'm always confused with all thee mods and addons and forks, the average player simply doesn't know what to play. It's better to have one large project.

Taken the case that GAE will be the new main Glest, will the website glest.org be changed to GAE as well?

I doubt it, original Glest will still be the main Glest, this will just be considered more of an Advanced Engine, but I seriously doubt that this will completely take over.

But I thought Glest is "dead" (meaning no longer developed)? In a few months, when GAE has a stable release based on the latest Glest with additional updates (Graphics, bugfixes, Multiplayer, ..) it will be the only project around Glest that is alive. And this means it's the "main Glest".

Like LinCity (main game) and LinCity-NG (fork from the latest LinCity), but only the "fork" still get's developed, making it the main game.

Or let's ask the other way round: In a few months, will there be other games in the "Glest universe" that are actively developed beside GAE?

I read about megaglest. Is this a similar project as GAE? What is different from GAE?

That's what I meant a few posts before: If there are lots of Mods, Forks, Add-Ons, Groups, ... then the average player won't know what to take, play or do (like me, for example, I'm extremly confused what is needed to play with the latest development and what exactly has changed since Glest 3.2.2 to GAE/Megaglest/any other mod here).

If you had read this whole thread you'd realize that that post was useless, you just said what has already been said. :-\
Please learn from this, Ultifd.

Let's try not to belittle others, 'k?  If you read maxpower's immediately previous post:

...utifd's post was actually an answer to the question, although not a complete one. :P

Also, you didn't do any more than derail the conversation, yourself, because you never answered the question. :-\  Please learn from this, -Archmage-.

Well, I was only answering this question... Or rather, trying to.  :P
But I thought Glest is "dead" (meaning no longer developed)?
The others questions are harder to answer...
Anyways,
For megaglest, the multiplayer is supposed to be better...  and I think particles are being "improved"...
See?

And some other stuff too...  ::)

Modman, I was only trying to help.

Besides, what good did your post do... ::) :P

Glest is no longer under development.

If you want to know all the GAE features you'll have to look in the ticket system or talk to one of the major developers.

I think this will answer a few questions... ;)

MegaGlest 3.2.3 new features:

-Loads only factions needed
-New CPU Level: CPU-Light/Easy
-New CPU Level: CPU-MEGA!!!
-And more..........

MegaGlest 3.2.4 features so far:

-A lot of multi-player work to help stability and gameplay...
-Unit Particle Effects
-More to come......

I'm in the process of going through old posts and updating documentation. Have a look at changelog from 0.1.3 up to 0.2.7 in the meantime.

Edit: I've put together a more complete changelog.

Ah, now there's slowly clearing up. ;)

But let me get this right:
A feature/bugfix in Megaglest IS NOT automatically a feature/bugfix in GAE? Can't the best things of both be merged into one single project?

Great!  I thought they would always be separate, and that I would have to choose between, but I'm really happy about this now!

Aww shucks, thanks modman (sorry, that's 'sir')

They may have to remain 'somewhat separate' for a time yet, until we can sort out all all the 'kinks' in GAE, but I sincerely hope softcoder and titi will ultimately be helping out here. I don't want to have to merge all their work into GAE myself, but if that's what it takes, then that's what I'll do.
