Im new to glest and some friends and i making a modified version for a class at school

I know the basics of Blender and XML scripting

First, what do you want to "add" to Glest?  ::)  :P What features?
Second, welcome!  :D
Third, have you tried Megaglest or GAE yet?  ::)

By support powers, he means powers that can be used to affect the battle in a dramatic fashion, but lack the requirement of a unit or building to use. Logically they'd either have high costs in resources or a long cool down period to prevent them from being too powerful.

I have Glest on my home computer, although I don't play it much.

I'll watch those when I get home. YouTube is blocked at school >.>

As for the Mac problem, it's a work in progress. :/

There's an entire class of us, except there are only two groups working on modding for Glest, the other groups are making either an animation sequence or attempting to make a mod for an FPS.

If you mean something like the nukes in C&C:Generals, you can do this pretty easily in Glest.  Just give a unit a massive attack with a high EP cost.  Currently there isn't a way to have attacks cost resources per se, but you could have the nuke as its own unit (thereby costing resources) with a powerful short-range attack with a splash powerful enough to destroy the nuke itself.  That way it would work a little more like a cruise missile than an ICBM, but you'd get the general effect.

Would we have to set it so that it's attack will damage itself? Or will simply raising the radius of it's attack be enough to destroy it?

(Also if you don't know, I'm working with Jacko161)

A splash attack affects all units in the radius, including the unit using the attack if it happens to be standing in the way.

In the XML you can change it not to give damage to your units or to give damage, see here:

Code: [Select]
<skill>
<type value="attack"/>
<name value="attack_skill"/>
<ep-cost value="0"/>
<speed value="50"/>
<anim-speed value="50"/>
<animation path="models/catapult_attacking.g3d"/>
<sound enabled="true" start-time="0.1">
<sound-file path="sounds/catapult_attack1.wav"/>
<sound-file path="sounds/catapult_attack2.wav"/>
</sound>
<attack-strenght value="300"/>
<attack-var value="100"/>
<attack-range value="10"/>
<attack-type value="impact"/>
<attack-start-time value="0.7"/>
<attack-fields>
<field value="land"/>
</attack-fields>
<projectile value="true">
<particle value="true" path="particle_proj.xml"/>
<sound enabled="true">
<sound-file path="/sounds/catapult_hit1.wav"/>
<sound-file path="/sounds/catapult_hit2.wav"/>
</sound>
</projectile>
<splash value="true">
<radius value="2"/>
<damage-all value="true"/>     <------------------------------------------------------------------------------- see here
<particle value="true" path="particle_splash.xml"/>
</splash>
</skill>

the only problem is that we want to edit in a power not a unit but that could always be a fallback
