This kind of reminds me of Roman gladiator games.  The people either gave a thumbs-up or a closed fist, never a thumbs-down, like we've been led to believe.  In the same way, you can only give a thumbs-up.
To my knowledge, there is no known SMF mods that will do this, and I have no intent on creating such a feature myself. Since the only default karma system does allow negative votes, and it can be very easily abused (ie: I don't like X! Ha, take that! Negative 10000 karma!). With NO way to change it. For the time being, no karma system will be implimented.

OK, I understand it better now.  But I'll keep hounding you about it after "for the time being" has passed. ;D

Just make it so you can rate up and down a post, not the user.

Well his point is that there is no SMF mod that does that... We think...  :|
and that he isn't going to make one himself...I think.
You could make one yourself...if you really want a half Karma system...  ::)

Off-topic posts are irrelevant to the forum (that's why they're "off-topic"), hence they should NOT count.

Still, many people seem to be in favour of offtopic posts counting so if that's the final decision, then I'll be happy to start the "Increase your post-count!!!" thread that you can find in ANY good forum where offtopic posts count.
You know the type... a completely useless thread growing to the hundreds of PAGES filled with nothing!
'Cause really... that is the only advantage of having offtopic posts count:
You can abuse it!!!
;D ;) 8) :)  :D :O :P :bomb:  :archer: :swordman: :cheesy:

Hehe, once on a forum we had a "Reach the number 10000", where everyone could make only one post in a row, with the next number. A typical post raising game -.- and there are many others...

The problem is not with the high post numbers, but making irrelevant assumptions based on them.

No Eliminator we are not talking about me, if we were than this would just be a topic about "Let's single Arch out over there, assume that he posted in the Off-Topic board more than everybody else, and make a rule so he can't do that".........

Sounds like jealousy to me.....

Aha, you posted this because you wanted to raise your posts count.

Arch:
The problem was that you said, that you were promoted to mod because of your posts count. ElimiNator (oh my, everyone is constantly changing their names...) just said, that you made many offtopic posts, and that might be the reason that you were promoted to mod :D

EDIT:
He is not so far away from the truth  :O . You registered in February 2009, and you made 3k posts :D

"in a row"? How's that? Like there was a roll of posters and you could only post once til everyone in the roll had posted for that round?
Or... what "row" are you talking about?  :-\

Agreed. But people do like post counts and do make those irrelevant assumptions so...  :-\

You could make only one post, until someone else made a post. And you continue until you reach the number 10000 (or whatever).

Well, no one posted any reason against counting offtopic posts, so I guess we are done here

Just don't post unless there is a reason, if you do post useless posts then a mod can remove it.  :)

I don't think you can remove the forum after it is already started.

Kukac, posts like jokes and stuff is good for morale, posts that talk about science that has nothing to do with Glest is a good learning experience, just because a post is OT doesn't mean it's useless or has no meaning.

I'm probably going to lock the new post count topic.

As long as things don't get out of hand, we don't have to worry too much.  :|
I mean...I guess there are only like 20 people that actively post on the forums...  ::)

EliminiNator...

My posts are as abusive as much as this very thread belongs in off-topic. This topic is about the Glest forum, so it should go into General discussion.
Still, this thread is here.
And still, I keep saying my posts are abusive.

Why do I say my own posts are abusive?
Could it be I'm out of my mind??
Or do I just have a sense of humour?
