Tiberius didn't hear my comment, and continued to talk about the "incredible power" of the Romans Ballistae.

Tiberius was much faster. He whacked the crossbow out of my hands with the back of his spear and said, "I prefer melee combat, but feel free to have a shooting match with a Roman archer."
"But still," I said, "if the Romans are so great, then why are we farther in technology?"
Tiberius merely grunted and said, "We've had border skirmishes with you in the past. Surely you've seen how ineffective your rust-buckets are... Anyway, we shouldn't be squabbling amongst ourselves. In gratitude of our new alliance, I invite you all to dinner down at the town hall."

Sure I said, bitter about this, I was really mad at this roman braggart, the romans had gotten crushed by our battlemachines and tanks and now they dared to detest them, compared to our arbalestiers the roman archers were children with wooden sticks, they were no match for our fire power, still we needed an alliance and we'd have to get along with them, outside I could here elves firing arrows and magic bursts, dwarves practicing there riflemanship and melee skills, romans drilling formations and tech troops conducting flying practice, mechanized manouvers, cavalry skills, and sharpshooting,

I came above ground and looked at our allies. It just struck me, ive made an alliance that my grandfathers had only dreamed of, but then i was snapped back to reality.

"Sir, we have designed a new walker for you based off of your own schematics, do you want to see it?" a Tech engineer asked me.

"Ok, lead the way!"

I entered the room that it was being housed in and the engineer pulled down a sheet to reveal a new walker, it was shining with a new coat of paint and carried several new pieces of equipment, it had a telescopic sight in the cockpit a chain fed crossbow that was powered by a small steam engine and a large double bladed axe, its feet were covered with spikes to help it hold onto slippery ground and to step on enemies, the cockpit was fully enclosed and there were several other modern features we might have a chance of beating the enemy after all...

Hey not even half my posts are off topic so don't complain

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
it was a rear mirror so you could see what was behind you I was shocked, then came a man in leather armor, a metal helm and a short sword, he jumped to attention and explained to me that he was going to be the captain of a new battle machine squadron, the 49th which would operate these machines, he also told me that I would get a personal battlemachine, then he led me into an adjoining hall which contained some sort of aircraft, the wings were designed to flap and powered by a steam engine, it also had a rocket pod a telescopic sight, and twin rapid fire crossbows, and impressive machine and the replacement for the obsolete ornithopters...

Tiberius walked in, "Did you know that we got 1/5 of our Empire out of the border skirmishes with you Techians?"
I grumbled and looked away.
Tiberius spoke again, "Did you also know that--"
I started to walk away, not wanting to hear this stuff again.
But he finished anyway and I heard it. "the senate is currently voting on whether they want to offer half of the land back to you after the war". He spoke again, "I really shouldn't be telling you this, and we did get that land fair and square..."

As I recall, the thread that was locked/deleted/whatever was one that was dedicated only to posting for the sake of posting, and that's why it wasn't allowed.  I haven't seen anyone saying there was a problem with forum games in general.

Something felt very suspicious about this Roman.  He appeared seemingly out of nowhere and was trying to take control of the whole operation.  I couldn't tell what he was planning, but something in the back of my mind told me to be very cautious.

This is more of a story, and as you can see...or others can see, it is different then those forum games which is really pointless and just to raise post count (I remember, other forums...) ...for this, it is somewhat related to glest, and we actually think...when we post...most of us maybe,  :|

He spoke with the chief of city security and it was decided that the Praetor should be captured and tortured. What they didn't know was that the Praetor had really come to get the King of the Techian society and pull him into Rome under heavy guard to ensure that he didn't die, because long before the border skimishes, a Romans Emperor had promised a Techian King that Rome would defend them and especially the King during war, that the Techian King knew would inevitably come. 2 hours before the capture was to take place, news reached me that the Roman Praetor had taken off for the Capital of the Techian Kingdom on horseback with 300 of the most elite soldiers in the known world.

Meanwhile as the tech army was called up to arms and mobilized my generals had already worked out a cunning counter attack, it would be all tech and would start with fighter sweeps, and bombing of the rocket river sector, the bridge there was the only way across and had to be captured intact, after softening up the enemy with artillery and bombing the 82nd and 101st airborne divisions would capture the bridge for an immediate breakthrough, I would lead the air part of the fight general Lacky would lead on the ground...

The defense at this city isn't very strong, we're going to need a lot of help.
But he'd forgotten about the large Praetorian forces outside the town. And just after he thought about needing assistance, a huge rain of arrows came pouring down on the mages, in the distance he could now spot Roman legions 12, and 13, pilums flew, Thor's groaned and collapsed into the ground, the Mage's were devastated, they hadn't expected to be ambushed while surprise attacking.
But still it wasn't enough. The Praetorians outside the city moved to block the gates and posted groups of soldiers all around the walls, the Roman legions we're suffering numerious casualties while taking of lot themselves. The mages still advanced, and the Thor's continued to hold the Romans at bay. They were going to need more...

somehow, i managed to rally the new battlemachine squadron. we geared up in our new walkers, and we marched into the fray. Bolts of magic whized by us, but we kept on marching. in unison, we lifted our crossbows and fired...

A mechanic came running out onto the field with his wrench, "I forgot to put the last bolt in, sir!". A leg on my BattleMachine came unhooked and I was thrown from it as it fell. The mechanic saw this and ran even harder. One of the Thor's was heading toward him. Meanwhile, The Praetorians had gotten the King, and a part of the force was taking him back to Rome. Tiberius had gotten news of the battle via guards being ordered around and stuff like that, and was heading with 187 of the Praetorians to the battle, but it was unlikely he would get there in time. Meanwhile Battlemachines were smashed into bits as Thors were sliced in half, thousands of screams could be heard, bodies went flying up into the air and then back down with a gruesome thump.
All of a sudden out of the trees came about 50,000 mages along with a good 4000 behemoths, and and about 500 archmages, and standing on a platform carried by his enslaved daemons, stood the Archmagus of War, the top General in terms of the Techians view. There was no hope......... "Retreat!!" I called as the mechanic pulled me back behind the fortifications.

then, a fleet of something was in the sky above us, it appeared to be a mass of flying horses!

"Valkyries! They're here to kill us all!!!" my personal engineer exclaimed.

but to our surprise, the Valkyries started to destroy the Thors and the mages. soon, they began to flee into the forest. Ha! the tables were turned. But none of us knew why the enemy was helping us. maybe the Valkyries just wanted to kill us themselves.

After the dust had settled, a few of them landed in front of me and the generals. The Roman guards all rose their swords, we knew that it would be a fight to the death. But the Valkyries had other ideas.

"We are sorry that this had happened, we didnt want to side with the magic; but there was nothing we could do, they captured our chieftain. We need your help, because we Norse are tired of slavery to the Magic."
