High fantasy (orcs, dark elves, etc.)
Definately a plus. Dunno if I want to see dark elves though and orks simply don't get me...
Retro-future (featuring rocket ships, flying saucers, robots)
Might be good, though it seems a bit awkard in glest.
Underwater - Concept is here: https://forum.megaglest.org/index.php?topic=5092.msg40210#msg40210
Looked at your concept, but not so sure... Maybe so maybe not. Hard to imagine what you have planned.
Mecha
Like robots? If done well, this could be quite interesting... *daydreams of huge fighting robots*
Mythology - This concept needs work.
Dunno what you have against it. There's tons of mythical beast, etc that could feed such a mod. For example, the mighty chimera? *roar*
Magitech expansion
Hmm, that could be nice, but IMO, Four path Magitech would be best suited as this. I once planned to do this, but then my computer went bad. Plan on buying a new one soon ($1100 is mine at the end of the month [which is now]!) and might revive it once I get it all set up. Of course, biggest problem is that GAE needs more capabilities and Daniel never gave his ideas...

Well, I completely lost track of every idea being discussed in this topic... :P
So I'll just add another point to what I think would have an impact on an underwater mod:

- Shades. They won't work underwater as on the surface, due to underwater light refraction and absortion.
Still, I guess the simple "hack" would be to just warn the user to turn Shades off in the game's Options menu before starting a game. ;D
- Ok, to be really anal about this... light itself will be different underwater, for the same reasons as shades. But in this case I do think tweaking it would be too much work for what it's worth.

@ wciow:
You're a generous soul!  8)
So much I'll simply assume your answer to my last PM is "Yes, you can." ;D

Don't we already have a four path magitech???

Yea, in the same way we already have an orcs faction.  Neither are finished yet.  And FPM isn't really the way I wanted to go: FPM uses the subfactions option in GAE and I'm undecided on that feature... :-\

High fantasy (orcs, dark elves, etc.)
Definately a plus. Dunno if I want to see dark elves though and orks simply don't get me...

I like this, except I really don't understand the difference between dark elves and Dark Magic, except that they are elves. :|

Okay, here's what I'm come up with in the past two days: http://docs.google.com/Doc?docid=0ARUAF5tBNeWaZGhoYmpmbnFfMzlmdDZtNTU0Mg&hl=en
Quote
The Dynasty is an extended family of an ancient and powerful psychic race called the Overlords.  Their numbers are few, so they use minions of various other races to fight for them and cater to their whims.  The Overlords are of aquatic origins, but once they firmly established their empire under the sea, they set their sights on dry land.  They had previously dominated simple sea creatures through direct mind-control, but when they encountered the land-dwelling Orcs, they used their psionic powers to impersonate gods.  After a short demonstration of power, the Orcs quickly submitted to their new masters.  Now the Dynasty, ever hungry for more power, seeks to expand both below the waves and on the ground.

The Dynasty (working title) is a hybrid of the Invertebrate and Orc factions, with the units from Fluffy's Orc diagram in this thread serving as the ground troops, and using the Invertebrates as naval/marine troops.  I intentionally left out the air units in order to balance out their aquatic advantage, but I'm pretty flexible on this point.  Hence, I've come up with the following faction diagram:

(click to show/hide)

Edit: Seems spoiler tags aren't working.  Oh well. ;D

Anyway, known issues: This tree could use some pruning!  Currently there are a heck of a lot of units, and some could probably stand to be omitted.  Also, this is extremely tentative, so please post feedback.  If you think this idea sucks, let me know.  If you think it's great, let me know that too.  If there's anything you think should be changed, by all means say it! :)

Edit 2: ... and if this diagram is confusing or you don't understand the idea, say so and I'll try to explain better.

The Cabal (Dark Elves and Gnomes) and Hyperion (a human nation).

Full explanation of the concept (including diagrams) is here.

Quote
Cabal:

Centuries ago, a group of lesser gods sought to overthrow The Radiant One.  For their treachery, they were exiled from the heavens and stripped of their names, finding a home in the bowels of the earth.  When they were cast out of the light by their brethren, the followers of these now-nameless spirits sought refuge in the caverns beneath the world's surface, where they would call themselves the Dark Elves.  There, they forged an alliance with a race as cruel and cunning as themselves, the Deep Gnomes, forming what would come to be known as the Cabal.  While the Gnomes gain power through ingenuity and invention, the Dark Elves gain power through self-sacrifice.  Some give up their sight in order to gain vision beyond their physical senses, while the most dedicated servants of The Nameless willingly offer their own souls in return for power.
Quote
Hyperion:

Hyperion is a human nation where faith, chivalry, and hard work are held in high regard.  They have a long-standing tradition of mounted warfare, and their cavalry are second to none.  They also field an archer corps made of seasoned woodsmen, as well as a formidable navy.  While not oppressive, the religious institutions are very active in the military, political, commercial, and day-to-day affairs of the people of Hyperion, even to the point of choosing the next king from among the military aristocracy, and all willingly swear fealty to their deity, The Radiant One.  Most citizens of Hyperion are fiercely loyal to their nation, leading to a strong sense of nationalism and a reluctance to cooperate with others.

This could very well be that great big mod that rivals Magitech that you were talking about. 8)

I personally don't have a problem with retro-future, if that's what you're still getting at, but I have a feeling that not very many people would want to play it.  I certainly would, but until I hear a lot of people saying "Yes, I'd like to play this!", I just don't see it being worthwhile to make. :-\

Oh come on guys, the GLADE Team hasn't even really finished DM(sounds still need to be done), and now you want to start a project 3 times the size?!?
Magitech-refit/extended/ would be a smaller project that could be finished much more easily.

I can pump out more work than DM in a week no offense to the team , but that was some slow progress , but i want the retro/scifi so bad i mean ti has so much potential the only thing i'm trying to do is figure out if it should be cartoony , but still awesome when it comes to the graphics or serious looking. I could work on some examples if you need me to. i mean i want us to work on the tech tree's together to make it perfect , like you work on the AKA underwater aliens that come to the surface because of the AKA outer space aliens are trying to invade , whilst the humans didn't even know they existed , but are now fighting to keep what they have thought was theirs for so long.  :D

I think retro-future would have to be at least a little cartoony.  I mean, the whole point of the genre is to be campy! ;D

I'll do a couple concept sketches and upload maybe around midnight GMT (7pm Eastern).

Sorry it took longer than I expected, but here are a few quick, rough sketches.  Sorry I don't have a scanner, so I just took pictures of the paper. :P

As always, click for full size.

For more, you can just Google:
Code: [Select]
("Flash Gordon" OR "Buck Rogers") AND <term you're looking for> and it should return what you're looking for.

Hey i would take a picture too , so its all good , well i was thinking the humans should be in a WW2 type of era , but have them use some of the alien tech mixed with their's . what'd think?. More realistic but with a cartoony vibe not completely cartoony see what i'm saying? lol i don't think you would've done much no offense arch at all just saying it takes you a long time. even tho i know i don't have the best track record

As opposed to the other mods that end up being cartoony on accident? :P

Besides, the only "cartoony" or non-"serious" mods we have are, quite frankly, awful.  Besides, you're judging from two concept drawings I made in about half an hour.  Nobody else has even weighed in on the idea. ::)

So you're thinking of more like Tucho's aborted mod / War of the Worlds?  I was thinking more like Buck Rogers / Flash Gordon.  Either would potentially be pretty cool.
