Yes that is probably a good idea, will try to remember to add a switch for it.

adding observers was quite easy with the alpha, where defeated players can observe. just add a new faction called observer that starts without any units. that will do it. maybe it will included in alpha4?
of course, this is no perfect solution with the "you lost" message.

edit: i created a little dummy, trying to keep it as small as possible. but it could still be much smaller with a smaller model. can someone creat a minimalistic model? for example a cube?  :O

here is a link:
Code: [Select]
http://ul.to/yq7cpy
it includes the whole folderpath. so just extract it to your mg folder.

edit: link fixed

ok nobody responses  :(

but here are my two cents about the observer mode:
in all big tournament games for the last ~10 years (e.g. warcraft 3), people playing a tem game didn't lose until the whole team was defeated. so imagine a 2on2 tournament with poeple being in teamspeak. it would be a real cheat for a team to have one of the player observe. it would be dangerous to defeat enemys  :o
or even 4on4 games, where very often one player of a team is slaughtered quite soon because everbody goes 4vs1. after ten minutes, both teams would have full vision! that is crap.

so really would prefere the method metioned above.

the full observer mode could still be given after a team lost completely (like in a 2vs2vs2)
so this quick and dirty observer i build for my post before, could still work :)
just until a real observer slot will be created.

If you play vs CPU player its often fun to have the possibility to see your enemies when you have lost. Of course thats not really fair, but in coop games that doesn't really matter. But you are right in my opinion it must be teambased. Only if the whole team lost it can be switched to observer mode.

For a special observer slot:
This will not be done now, because we still have serious performance issues. If we are really stable and fast ( looking at multiplayer ) this can be added, but not now.
Try Megaglest! Improved Engine / New factions / New tilesets / New maps / New scenarios
