IEF is not "taken", in that term it would be impossible to create new sci-fi games, i am aware its used in other games/video game titles, but its quite simple, in our universe the human faction is simply called UEF, we could also have called them terrans because the word terran is lead from the word terra, wich means something along the lines of earth aka "Earthlings".

therefore im not troubled by the wording.

well, CFS, i understand what you are talking about, but if you call them the UEF, then people might mistake them for SupCom's UEF. i know that i would, then i'd be rather disappointed. and "terran" means "of earth," not "earthlings."

terrans is correct, BUT Its called Zerglings there is no such thing as earthlings in SC.

And Zoy about earthling VS of earth i said "something along those lines clearly stating that im not sure what exact term it is.

I was confused by what Gabbe wrote.  Thats what I asked what he is talking about. 

From my prospective on GIS, we are working on HUD changes right now and will be adding a few game mechanics features.  We are also developing new tech trees for our factions.  If you would like proof of the implementation side, then check out https://forum.megaglest.org/index.php?topic=6384.new;topicseen#new

We eventually will be updating the wiki with the new tech tree information, but as of right now, its not the priority.

Does this answer your question about it being different?

Now, since i don't really have released anything but a crappy :ALPHA WIP VERSION: i can't blame you too much, since you don't know about all the lore relating to the NEW faction AND the rework in progress 2 old factions. Also about ripoff i can _understand_
your point, but its non valid.

Siege tank, meant to break base defences. How do you propose i name this? base shattering unit? no i thought so
Marine?, First tier unit? what is every know army we know built up off?, Marines/infanty, what do you want to call this? Super fancy marine?, no.
Command center?, HQ?, Command post?, i know of game were ALL these names are used, and thats just on top of my head.

Yes i'm inspired by the starcraft universe i grew up with it, but we are not making a clone be sure of that. what about starcraft it self?`, it has starships were do those come from?, Star trek i could continue but to conclude.

Our mod is NOT a clone.
the goal is NOT to clone starcraft.

And until we decide when to release (yes there is a date) you can speculate all you want, but don't call it a ripoff, thats simply being stupid think about it before you call something a ripoff, hell even glest could be a ripoff by your definitions.

now, i don't want this to be a debate about this, so if this did not convince you, just leave the thread, and don't comment. But you do make a problem apparent to me i should properly add a FAQ for these questions.

Guys, if you want this mod to be taken seriously, you're really going to need original ideas.  Maybe you have some already, but what I'm seeing so far is a faction that's almost exactly a clone of Starcraft's Terrans, one that's almost exactly a clone of their Zerg, and one that I'm suspecting is going to be at least heavily influenced by the Protoss.  All I'm seeing that has been changed so far are the names.  At least if you were to say "We're making a mod to bring the Starcraft universe into Glest", then I could respect that to some degree, but instead you're taking all of Blizzard's ideas and calling them your own.  That's shameful.  On top of that, you're programming the GUI to more closely mimic Starcraft. :|  There's a difference between being inspired by some creative work, and just flat-out copying it unit-for-unit.  There are tons of different ways for a futuristic science fiction RTS to look, and not all of those ways look like Starcraft!  Another member (Fluffy203) was working on a mod inspired by Starcraft, and you know what?  It wasn't an exact copy!  It wasn't even close.  It had a few of the same themes and some of the same style, but it was most definitely its own thing with original ideas.  Every screenshot and idea put forth for GIS that I've seen so far has been just like Starcraft (except with less polish).  If you've got any original ideas or plans for this mod, by all means enlighten us.

Have you ever played the following games: Warcraft 1/2/3, the C&C series, Age of Empires, any of the "Total War" games, The Dawn of war series, World in Conflict,etc
Other Games that aren't exactly RTS's that have the same interface: DotA, Heroes of Newarth, League of Legends

These are the games that I could think of off the top of my head.  I'm sure if you search giant bomb or other game db sites, that you will find many more RTS's that have the same HUD. 

Most RTS's have minimaps, resource indicators, unit/building selection icons, unit/building commands, chat boxes, information boxes, and overlays.  This means that there is a finite set of options of arranging these main components.  We chose the "standard" arrangement for our RTS which includes setting the minimap to the lower left corner, resource indicators at the top right, unit/building selection icons bottom middle, and unit/building commands bottom right. 

My goal for the HUD is to let modder's choose the positions of these main components.  This is why all of the additions I am working on for the HUD are toggable and settable in the xml (left, right, top, bottom, etc).

Im not going to defend im just going to let time speak for itself, but i think you should tone down a little, you sound awfully harsh for somebody who only have seen WIP version of the mod. if you think closely about it you don't really have any base for judgment.

Again i do not blame you, but that protoss quote you are going to EAT later, because there are NOTHING like the protoss in the 3 factions i have (perhaps except for the teleporting stuff,(altho that isn't really finalized). just accept that for now it mimics SC simply because there are so few units.

You seem to have a mod dedicated coder making nice patches to MG but nothing in the way of sreenies  :look:

Well, i don't like to set it up like that, but we have both high goals,(perhaps i should add that to QA), And i intend to forfill them, no i havent looked at Constellus at some tome, but i think they are further than us, since i have to model,XML,iconize,sounds, myself, so that takes some longer time, i know wviow have offered to help, but im working on completeing tech trees, wicth takes time.

but im making good progress, and with conzar i can believe we can make a really awesome game out of the MG engine.

There is no beating anyone here, you can never beat this mod, because we are not competing, we are on our steady way towards our mods goal, now stop this nonsense, instead you should join #glest-modding and talk about creating better art content for the engine.

Please stick to commenting on the mod itself, and yes i know, the thread lacks updates, that is because im working my ass off to finish....something...a little secret surprise so to speak.
