This might be a dumb question, but whenever I run Firefox on Linux, its spell-checker tries to get me use British spellings of words, so how do I change it to American English?
Make sure you do not have the British English version of the spell checker...  ::)
https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/browse/type:3

But usually it should come with US english...unless you got firefox from the british english firefox site  ::)

No, it's what came with Ubuntu.  In that case, I guess maybe it's South African English. :look:

Oh, I see...  ::)
-----------------------
So, recently, Safari 5 Came out.
I heard it has a option to block all advertisements...or something like that...  :|
Good for some people, and bad for some certain others...I guess.
Basically the same complaint as...as that great firefox Addon...  ::)

So something like that.  :P

Indeed it does, but Safari is the most compatible browser, using the newest version of XHTML and CSS.

Chrome I've found is the best for me now, it's very stable now and super fast, I click the cool logo and its up instantly with the recently visited sites page ready to go, I have no problems with Chrome, used to but it was beta back then.
I hate Internet Exploder not as bad as Opera though. Never really bothered with Safari it just seems to Appleish to me and I don't like Apple much though I do have an iPod I use Media Monkey to sync it not crappy iTunes!
Firefox used to be my main browser for watching videos but Chrome handles them now so I don't need Firefox any more for me it takes too long to load up, in fact since I got my new laptop I haven't even downloaded it yet and Internet Exploder still comes up with all the welcome to Internet Explorer stuff! So Chrome all the way for me now and I've had no problems at all.

Firefox will always be the best for me. Safari and chrome are close contentors (chrome has extensions!). Opera is too much like IE in rendering, so that fails. IE... lets not even start.

What do you mean you can't change back to firefox?  :|

I agree, basically fully...I think.
It would be like this for me: Firefox, then Chrome, then Safari...

Anybody know if there's a way to "lie" to a website and make it think I'm using a different browser and OS than I am?  The site for my online Spanish homework blocks everything except for Internet Explorer and Safari (and it blocks that too if it's not on a Mac). :(

Good Luck, that usually should work...

Only works in Windows.  Figures.  ::)  I'm going to try running Safari under Wine and see if that works.  I doubt it will, but maybe MySpanishLab won't know the difference between different Unix-based operating systems. :P

What you are looking for is to change the user agent. An easier alternative is to disable JS, since that is usually what's used to detect the user agent, but if the site uses PHP, you'll need a different method...

To change the user agent in firefox:
  • Go to 'about:config' (type it in the address bar)
  • Right click somewhere and choose new>string
  • Enter 'general.useragent.override' as the name of the string and click OK
  • Now we must type the value, which can be any user agent string.

For example, IE7's user string is 'Mozilla/4.0 (compatible; MSIE 7.0; Windows NT 6.0)'.

Oh yeah...  :-[ that too.  :P

In the upcoming Firefox 4, tabs will be on top...like...etc.
they even have a video for the reasons to do that, but don't worry...if you don't like it, you can switch back by right clicking...I probably won't be used to it, at first, but probably later...  :|

Sweet!  I vastly prefer having the tabs on top, merged with the title bar like in Chrome.  Most monitors these days are widescreen, so programs that use less vertical space are at an advantage, as opposed to, say, every Microsoft program from the past few years, which seem geared specifically toward making you buy a bigger monitor.  That new notification system seems like it's going to be a pain, just because of how obtrusive it is.  Hopefully they'll leave the current one as an option.  (Yes, I'm aware that I just said horizontal bars were a bad thing, but in this case they're better than popping up a dialog balloon.)  As far as mouse distance is concerned... who uses a mouse to switch tabs? :P

Mouse distance: I sometimes do... yeah I do.  :P
Tabs on tap: I guess...well I'll see, when it comes out. Might still be a long time cause...the Firefox 4 public is from FTP or not, and it is not even intended for others...I think.  :|
You are getting me confused john, what new notification system?  Huh.

Hmm...that is true. I am not using one of those currently, but I have before and understand why...
Horizontal bars: huh?

Well...we will see. Firefox 4 does NOT just have tabs on top, BTW. That just effects a lot...  :| Good, or bad.
Like I could make a post about all the new things browsers have...but if I do...at least later.

The notification thing at about 4:40 on the video.

Like when Firefox asks you if you want it to remember a password, or tells you it blocked a pop-up.
