« on: 12 April 2010, 21:00:42 »
So apperently my computer got affected with sercurity tool that is a fake thing that tells you you have a bunch a viruses but it tells you to pay this money to get rid of them its a scam to get your money but the worste of this is that it blocks you from like everything you can't even download things like malware to get rid of it. So i been trying the whole day by myself to get rid of it errr not working to well but i can't use my computer until this fake program is removed. so i been trying to kill virus all day what a fun day!  :scared:

Something like that happened to me once.  I just used a Linux live CD to restart my computer, find the virus, and destroy it.  Maybe you can use a similar solution?

Sounds like your everyday uh...well...I never even get these anymore...  :O  ::)
Let me guess, you are using Windows...
try using MalwareBytes...: http://www.malwarebytes.org/mbam.php
maybe install it from another comp, then put it on a USB...  :|
Um...if they have a "name" then tell us... (wait, you shouldn't even be telling "us", go to a "_____" removal forum...

Good Luck.  :)

Basically you have a fake anti-virus...anyways...um...I guess.

I've encountered this before.

To wipe it out, you have to use a program called HiJackThis.
Beware though, if not used properly you can destroy your computer.

I used Firefox to look up how to wipe the virus out.
If you want, I can go on a search to find out the site that helped me destroy the virus.

Is there some way you can go onto someones computer, and do things without being at their computer physically?

Don't bother with malwarebytes, it doesn't work.

And if you download HijackThis, it has to be called iexplore.com. ;)

malwarebytes is fine for me...but whatever.
Still, it depends, if she can even download hijackthis, and execute,and...  ::)  :O
But yeah, it is good too.

Download it here...http://free.antivirus.com/hijackthis/

But if you can, upload/copy the log file to here...
http://www.hijackthis.de/

Still, if you can tell us the name of it, it would be very helpful... ::)

Good Luck.  :)

Ehh... before running something that might possibly nuke your computer and everything on it, I'd suggest going with my approach.  All you need is an internet connection and a blank CD.

True, but that is somewhat harder.

Then again, if she is friends with Archmage, can't he just help her like...  ::)

Anyways, more details! Please.  :)

No, HijackThis doesn't destroy your computer, it simply shows the user the heart of Windows, and it's the users responibility to find the virus attached to the heart and delete it.

It's dangerous, but I know how to do it.

I've used HijackThis and it's a good tool. I had a similar issue recently with my wife's laptop, and if it wasn't for Avast's scan-on-boot ability it wouldn't have been removed. The one that got on hers was called "Internet Security 2000" or something stupid like that.

AVG can do a scan-on-boot as well, but unfortunately it wouldn't load until AFTER the virus was already in memory and couldn't be removed. Avast was able to get to it before Windows was even started which meant no more virus when it found it. I recommend Avast now, even if you have to re-register for a free (other than some minor personal information) license every so often.

Yah, try Hectate's idea, and if it doesn't work, then we can work together with HijackThis, and wipe that virus out!!! :D

Yeah.
But uh, now, registering with Avast is like...well...a click, no information...needed...much.  :|

Yea i fixed this problem ages ago. It hijacks your host from windows and registry. I made a registry fix for you  . DOWNLOAD

Double Click fix.reg and click YES for confirm.
Reboot your computer.
Then run Malware and it should find it and kill it for sure.

*Ignores last OT posts*

I once had a virus like that. I looked it up on a different computer and was able to stop the processes causing it and delete them. Antiviruses couldn't stop it, so had to do the old fashion way... :(
