Can i have a dummy attack particle effect?
« on: 19 April 2010, 21:01:14 »
im trying to make a guy with two guns, and i want them to be fired for the same attack. my idea is that only one of the guns in the attack, while the other has a dummy effect to make it look like he's firing both. can this work? if not, what can i do?

It would be nice if you could have multiple particle effects for the attack, one coming from each gun.  That would solve your problem.  *hint hint*

Currently I think the best you can do is have the guy hold the guns really close together so that the single particle effect doesn't look strange.  It's not an ideal or beautiful solution, but I think it's all we've got at the moment.

Yes, thats really something whats needed and its not possible yet.
When we add something like this ( to MG for example ) its maybe a good idea to make it like you said. One real shot and several dummy shots.
I will add this feature request to my list.

it would be better if both effects were "real," so that damage would be done if either (or both) hit their targets. having a "fake", cosmetic weapon should be an option that can be defined in the XML.

Well, if the Tech blacksmith can have 4 particle effects for one anim, why can't an attack skill? No offense, but it doesnt seem all that complicated (I dont know the code, but you know what i mean....)

hey, i have two other particle-based questions:

1. is it possible to have a particle that goes in a circle? like an orb going around a battlemage or something (and i dont mean adding it to the model)

2. and can i make a pillar of "particles"? like a pillar of light?

I'm not sure this is what you want but:
You can have a splash g3d model. This will be displayed on the target.
That's how omega's Labyrinth White Wizzard attack works and Dark Magic's Allyp attack too.

If you want to have the effect around the unit attacking (not the target which is what I said above gives you)... just model and animate it! :P

Or... if you're modding for Megaglest, there's the unit particle system ... like the fire of the Fire Golem. ;)

EDIT: Will you (or have you) ever posted anything yet? Models, factions, ...? 'Cause you keep doing interesting questions but I never notice anything you modded out there...?  :look:

EDIT #2: I mistakenly type Black Wizzard instead of White... Corrected. :)

The Allyp is on Dark Magic (and last I checked you had one as starting unit). You'll find the link in its thread, right here on the stickies. :P Don't know if the latest is on the first post though, check the last couple pages. ;)

The Fire Golem is on Indians, Megaglest version of the Indians, not Megapack v4. ;)
