crashes when I click
« on: 21 April 2010, 12:13:11 »
So the menu loads fine and I can start a game, the only problem is when I go to click anything with my mouse, even just the ground, the program crashes.

The error message runs like this:

"The instruction at "0x1001825c" referenced memory at "0x00f1e1c8". The memory could not be "read". Click "OK" to terminate."

I'm running version 3.2.2, Mega-Glest . I've uninstalled and reinstalled.  I've tried a different version.
I'm running WinXP service pack 3.  Just updated the service pack.  I'm suspecting its a windows error based on other posts I've read on this forum.   Any insights into my problem would be very appreciated. Thanks for your time.

3.2.2 cannot be Megaglest, its the original Vanilla glest.
Maybe you want to try Megaglest?
http://sourceforge.net/projects/megaglest/files/current_release/Mega-Glest-Installer-3.3.4_i386_win32.exe/download

But the error you get looks very suspicious? Do you have trouble with other software too?

Try Megaglest! Improved Engine / New factions / New tilesets / New maps / New scenarios

You're right, I apologize.  I have Mega-Glest and it's 3.3.4. I confused it with the other version I downloaded which is 3.3.2 .  When I run Mega-Glest it gives me the error I posted above; when I run 3.3.2 it crashes in the same manner without an error message.  I assume it's the same error as the circumstances are exactly the same.  The unique thing about my computer is that its a Dell Inspiron Mini, so it has a short screen, but I changed the resolution and that doesn't seem to be a problem.  I have been having trouble with other freeware programs I've been downloading, especially 3d programs.  Not all 3d programs, however, Google Earth (OpenGL mode) and Daz 3d studio seem to work just fine.  Glest doesn't seem to have a problem with the rendering but I'm not a tech and 3d programs crashing seems to be a theme. I just installed the newest update for Direct X 9 and got a driver for my video card (GMA 500) that supports OpenGL.   Sorry for the info overload, thought it might be helpful.  Thanks for responding so soon.

sorry for replying so late this time, but I don't have any idea whats wrong :/
Directx isn't used for this game, its OpenGL. Maybe the OpenGL driver are a bit crappy?

Can you see if editing glest.ini and setting the resolution to 800x600 works on your Dell? PErhaps your video card is having issues.

800x600 still crashes.  I'm suspecting it's the openGL drivers too, but the one I have is the only one I know of for my card (GMA 500) and I had to do some searching to find it :(  Thanks for trying, guys, I think this notebook is just not setup for gaming.  I knew that going in, just thought I might push it.  Let me know if you have any more insights.

There are obviously serious problems with the GMA500 and opengl drivers.
Maybe this helps you:

They talk about a new driver there too!
