I remember people (including me) had the same problem...but that was "a long time ago" (not really...)
https://forum.megaglest.org/index.php?topic=5150.msg41461#msg41461
Like this?  ::)

but then softcoder said to delete the... but this should not happen anyways  ::)
You could probably delete then opengl.dll in the archive (and it will then use the one installed with you copy of windows).

Let me know if that fixes your problem.
And I did that...anyways all versions after that he deleted it I think so...  ::) hmm...
Ok, I uploaded a new beta5 with opengl.dll removed so no-one else will have this problem.

So I guess either delete (if) you have the dll...
Maybe your friend actually needs to update opengl...

Otherwise...I don't know...  ::)
Good Luck to your friend.  :thumbup:

well, that's exactly what he got, and his drivers are up to date, so i will tell him to delete all the opengl.dll's

Don't do that! Just delete opengl.sll and dsound.dll "IN THE MEGAGLEST FOLDER ONLY". IF you delete the files elsewhere you may cripple your Windows system.

Hello,

I'm the one who is having trouble w/ MG running on Windows 7.
Zoythrus told me to post Screen shot so you uys actually know what I'm dealing w/.

There it is.

I don't know where to find the opengl.sll or the dsound.dll to delete them, which I thin doesn't exist

Any Ideas?

@ Zoythrus

A topic named "Glest wont work on Windows 7!" just doesn't fit in the "Linux and other ports" sub-forum.
Maybe you meant to post this on the board just below this one: "Bug report"?

Also, you're not reporting about (the original) Glest but rather MegaGlest; you might increase your chances that people in the know of MG would read this if you mentioned it on the subject or, better yet, you'd posted it on the MegaGlest sub-forum. ;)

Interestng POV, I'd never have thought of it that way.

Anyways, when you're talking of a port, you usually mean a port to a system other than the one the software was originally made for.
Glest was originally made for Windows. So a port will be a port to another OS such as Linux, Mac OSX, *BSD, even JAVA (though JAVA is not an actual OS, it is in a broader sense a System separate of Windows or any other actual OS it's running on), just to mention a few... ;)

That said, software development usually follows the OS's development. So if the software was originally made for say Windows Vista, further development will try and make it work on Windows 7, hopefully keeping it backwards compatible with Vista... ;)

That said... I'm pretty sure MG, or any of the other Glest engines for that matter, has no special version for Windows 7.
But... to make sure... ask a moderator or admin (preferably Titi :O ) to move this to the MegaGlest board, that's where it belongs, isn't it?

well, i do think that there should be a version of glest that is fully compatible (or as compatible as it can be...) with Windows 7. I put this thread here because everyone assumes that everyone else has XP, but that isnt always the case

I play Glest on Linux myself and I have Windows Vista, not 7 nor XP, too. But I do believe there are several people playing Glest on Windows 7...  :look:

Anyways, the Glest team that developed Glest up do 3.2.2 isn't developing it anymore so what you said is pretty pointless...
There are two main forks of Glest, currently being developed, you can choose from: MG and GAE.

And... again... you already chose MG... So again ... you should have posted this to the MegaGlest board. :P

You could try to edit glest.ini and set this value to be:

CheckGlCaps=false

and see if that works? I'm fully sure what the consequences of turning off the version check would be but you could try. Ultimately it looks like your opengl driver is old (usually comes with your video drivers I think). Perhaps uninstalling and reinstalling th video card drivers may correct the opengl.dll version?

Thanks

I got it to work!  I found an optional driver that hadn't been installed, and now, after installing it, Megaglest runs perfectly (albeit w/ a little lag, but that's because I haven't reduced the settings yet).   ;D

Just as a note: This isn't a Windows 7 specific problem, I have it too on Windows XP
