I think the only 3ds max versions the "official" script will work with were 7 and 8.

I use Blender myself like most others here.
However, there are people working with 3ds max on this forum. E.g. Fluffy203 and Jamin.
You might try and ask them but I do believe they export from 3ds to .obj format, then import the .obj into Blender and export to .g3d from there. But I think, but might be wrong, you'll loose your animations, i.e. you can only export unanimated models.
