It doesn't seem right to count kills of your own or a teammates units at all.  Using Indians for example, one can create workers, or bulls, or stickfighters and use fire archers or spearmen to kill them, thus promoting them to elite fire archers, and chief spearmen.  I don't know how one would change this in the gameplay but it doesn't make sense that a kill against someone who will not defend themselves should count as much as a kill against an opponent.  I suppose this is a good cheat tactic but I'd like to see it removed.

I think the strategy itself is ok  But it is not too popular...like people do not do it too much 
But you also have to think, for example accidentally you kill one of your allys' or your own units...like if you are using a "splash unit" (such as teh archmage, a lot of the units in the egypt faction, (the priest), the priest like units in the V Packs, and others...

I used Egypt for the first time yesterday, 4 player game(3 computer ultras)  My team was Indians, the computers were Egypt, Tech, and Magic(4 different teams), using megaglest.  I was surprised to see Egypt wipe out the magic and techs, actually tech devasted the magic faction and left only a few buildings for some reason that Egypt went down and finally destroyed before wiping out the techs.  On the topic of kills though, what are some of your highest kill totals?  Mine do not include myself or allies units.  A structure is my highest.  I had a single beehive(Indian) register 54 kills in a game.  As for living unit I think my record in 37, using the thunderbird(Indians)

The Egypt AI is like... really "bad" 
Yeah, placement of units can change a lot, or help a lot. It also helps if you produce the right units...so at least you can survive the 1st and 2nd attack  (But I usually only have this problem with Magic)

I have a new personal best.  In the Dark Magic faction, using an alliyp(mostly in a defensive position in my base, behind a row of Dark Mages, a single Alliyp registered 48 kills for me.

you press E.
But I do not recommend it...it saves in TGA format, which is very high quality and big file size...
anyways you can just press "Prt scr" on your keyboard, and copy to paint, if you are using windows.
I use lightscreen...it is easy to use (for me) http://lightscreen.sourceforge.net/ (for windows) I think...
I think if you use linux err... then something similar.

prtscr does not work for me when I'm in the game.  It works fine for me anywhere else(desktop, websites) as I've taken screenshots before.  I tried out two programs and both failed to capture a screenshot in game.  I open in paint, paste it there and it's a blank black image.  I run vista with service pack 2.  I'll have to try the other way and see what happens.
What's the free camera mode on your screenshot because I never see that on my game and does the game have to be in that mode to take screenshots?  I also used prtscr at the end of the game, thinking I had just captured my stats page but once I hit it there, it sent me to the menu.

Have you tried out the program I told you to...uh...try? That is what I always use at least....(lightscreen, see my above post)
Free camera? usually you just press F and then you will go into free camera mode, which you can zoom in-ish and out-ish more and such  I usually use my mouse, or this mode... 

f => toggle free camera mode
w => move camera up (only in free camera more)
s => move camera down (only in free camera more)
a => rotate camera left (only in free camera more)
d => rotate camera right (only in free camera more)

But usually, taking screenshots, should not affect your gameplay, unless your computer has bad specs 
And yes, pressing any key while seeing the stats makes it go to the menu, but I usually never have to worry too much, since it almost always works for me... 
I do not know, maybe you have to associate your prt screen key to...  idk.
But I had a similar problem before, and i fixed it by changing the "color" of my my config (monitor/desktop ish) from 16 bit to 32 bit...then it wasn't all "black' anymore

Thanks for the link.  I have something called gamescreen but I went ahead and used the "e" key in game for the screens.  I just convert them to jpg and delete the tga or whatever it is file.

I use irfanview and set the screen capture to priority desktop with a hotkey binding to alt+s. The screenshot is quite a bit lower quality than the glest image capture function but who cares?

I have a new kill king.  I played the Dark Magic on the Twilight Ruins map.  4 teams, along with 3 computer megas.  Persian, Romans, and Indians.  I thought the game was odd when Persian wiped Indians and then the Romans out before I had even finished building and making my army.  The first screen is some serious unit stacking toward the end of the game.  All those units were going nowhere and most of them were taken out by my new kill king, the alliyp, registering 116 kills.  I used him to wipe out their entire base, once I had taken out the remaining units.  I nearly lost him but managed to save him and get the screenie.  Now I did the e key for the screenshot at the stats page but it didn't save but I wanted to show it because the scoring system in the game makes no sense to me.  I registered 1008 kills and only suffered 11 deaths.  That's 11, one shy of 12.  Persian who had 140,000 points killed only 420 something.  Those are rounded as I don't remember the exact number but they had well over 1000 deaths.  I understand they produced 1272 units while I played the whole game making only 179, that includes building and many workers as I harvested more resources than in any other game.  Persia outharvested me by over 200,000 but again, I had 1008 kills and they had 420.  I only suffered 11 deaths and they suffered over a 1000, I won the game but yet they outscore me 140,000 to 126,000.  This makes no sense to me and it seems the game rewards harvesting and making troops more than it does what you actually do with the troops.  I did play this game defensively but I think Dark Magic is too powerful.  I never saw Rome fall before.  The Persians had an unending train of troops, pouring onto the Indians, and then Rome and when they came for me, they never stopped coming and all I could do was defend the base.
The screenies are 1600 by 900 so I'll just post them the way I did previously.  I changed the resolution from 1024 by 768 in game because I have the widescreen monitor and the game looks a lot better to me

Well, that is because Dark Magic was never really intended to be balanced with, oh wait, I mean it was never balanced with the megapack/megaglest    But most people still use it like that...
Nice game.
I guess you should use another image hosting site, since it seems the photobucket embedding code or whatever does not work, maybe imageshack? I don't know, but for imageshack they now include an ad in the Code or whatever that you have to delete after you copy and paste 
I forgot what the stats points are based on. 
Did you take a screenshot of your stats? (I do not think you can take that by pressing e, BTW) You have to use the built in screenshot prt scr, or a 3rd part ss taker

I used the e key on the stats page because it's what worked for the others but now I know it doesn't work.
That's just the embed code I've always used in html.  I don't use the links on the photobucket.  The links they supply may work so I'll try that the next time.
I think I'm going to play with my dark indian faction.  I only play against computer mega now so if they are outproducing me by 5, I don't see the harm in a little unbalance to even that out a bit for me.  It's more challenging than Dark Magic.  I won that game using just dark mages and alliyps and an earth serpent also registered 66 kills.

Alright, I've reread all these posts and have tried everything and am left wondering why I can't capture a stats page screenshot.  I downloaded lightscreen and everytime I start megaglest I get the windows warning that lightscreen isn't working properly and windows is checking for solutions and the program closes.  I tried irfanview because I've had that program awhile now and everytime I open it and start the game, the screen flickers between the game menu and the desktop.  I've tried each multiple times with the same result.  As soon as I exit irfanview, the game runs fine.  I also tried prtscr and everytime I do this, it saves a blank black image.   I'm already running at 32 bit so if anyone has any other ideas, that'd be great because I find it unbelievable I can't do a simple task as capturing the stats page in a screenshot.  Lightscreen would now be the 5th program I've tried and failed with.

I capture the stats screen by: when It says "You Win!" I Alt Enter so it goes into windowed mode and click on the desktop and press Prt sc, but this only works in linux.

well ok, then do not have any 3rd party programs running, and just press prt scr.... then paste in paint...try that 
hmm...I never have any issues with lightscreen...  Make sure you had the 32 bit version...
hmm...maybe other programs.

Thanks.  Prtscr was actually one of the first ways I tried, pasted it in my paint and it was a black image.  I'm already running in 32 bit so I can't change that to remedy the black image.  I'm not sure what the lightscreen program was in but I'll check that out too.

Aww, well, have you tried changing your "color" in yiur desktop configuration from 16 to 32 like I said? Because I had a similar problem...
