Ok 32 or 64 bit? Mega-Glest does work on 64 bit but requires an additional special package to support 32 bit binaries.

Ok, it is possible that somehow you are missing dependencies? Do you have a glest.ini in the main glest folder? If you run glest.bin (from the bin folder) it won't find glest.ini since it looks in the same folder as the binary. Do you have a glest.log file with any info in it?

Thanks

@softcoder:
What are these libs for?

Code: [Select]
default directfb library is missing, attempting to find and link to a different location if available...
default fusion library is missing, attempting to find and link to a different location if available...
default direct library is missing, attempting to find and link to a different location if available...

Are they new to megaglest?
Why are they checked?

@lio_013:
I cannot see any serious error in your output when starting with ./glest . Does glest work or not? If it works ignore these messages!
Glest starts up with a black screen, you have to wait some seconds or press the mousebutton.

Those dependencies were always there for glest. I just added more linked file mappings in the case of 64 bit users so the startup script would link to the properly libs

Hey, I have the same problem after formatting my system and setting it up again. I was also thinking about missing dependencies but I can't remember having to take care of that when I installed the game before.

Oh, I'm on OpenSuse 11.2 64bit, by the way.

If you get exactly the same error, the same 3 libs are missing for you. You have to install them:

directfb
fusion
direct
Try Megaglest! Improved Engine / New factions / New tilesets / New maps / New scenarios

hm, well I checked and I have those things installed. Still, I get this:

Code: [Select]
./glest64.sh: Zeile 55: ldconfig: Kommando nicht gefunden.
default openal library is missing, attempting to find and link to a newer version if available...
./glest64.sh: Zeile 62: ldconfig: Kommando nicht gefunden.
./glest64.sh: Zeile 69: ldconfig: Kommando nicht gefunden.
default directfb library is missing, attempting to find and link to a different location if available...
./glest64.sh: Zeile 76: ldconfig: Kommando nicht gefunden.
./glest64.sh: Zeile 83: ldconfig: Kommando nicht gefunden.
default fusion library is missing, attempting to find and link to a different location if available...
./glest64.sh: Zeile 90: ldconfig: Kommando nicht gefunden.
./glest64.sh: Zeile 97: ldconfig: Kommando nicht gefunden.
default direct library is missing, attempting to find and link to a different location if available...
./glest64.sh: Zeile 104: ldconfig: Kommando nicht gefunden.
./bin/glest.bin: error while loading shared libraries: libSDL-1.2.so.0: cannot open shared object file: No such file or directory

as for the libSDL-1.2.so.0 I tried to get that from here: http://rpm.pbone.net/index.php3/stat/3/srodzaj/1/search/libSDL-1.2.so.0%28%29%2864bit%29

But when I try to install the rpm, it says that it conflicts with file from package libSDL-1_2-0-1.2.13-112.3.x86_64  :(

I installed Glest from the Suse repositories and I can start that. So shouldn't megaglest work just fine?

looks like the program ldconfig is missing or not in the path.
Try Megaglest! Improved Engine / New factions / New tilesets / New maps / New scenarios

could it be that it's not working because I'm on a 64bit system? I'm trying the glest64.sh but I couldn't find the ia32-libs. I installed what I thought was the equivalent for Suse but I could have been wrong I guess. Is there another way to get the ia32-libs?

try maybe deleting the files in the glest lib folder and see if the script can link to your libs

Point me to the link where I can download the ISO for your exact version of your Linux Distro and I'll try it myself.

I got it from a Linux Magazine DVD.
But I'll try Kubuntu this weekend because this annoys me.

so, I'm on Kubuntu  now. Got the ia32-libs, could install Megaglest with the installer but can't start it. If I try to start it via the K-Menu, it starts loading for a couple of seconds and that's it. Nothing happens. I got the glest64.sh and when I try to start that from the terminal I get that stupid message again.

Code: [Select]
default openal library is missing, attempting to find and link to a newer version if available...
new openal library link = /usr/lib32/libopenal.so.1
default directfb library is missing, attempting to find and link to a different location if available...
new directfb library link = /usr/lib32/libdirectfb-1.2.so.0
default fusion library is missing, attempting to find and link to a different location if available...
new fusion library link = /usr/lib32/libfusion-1.2.so.0
default direct library is missing, attempting to find and link to a different location if available...
new direct library link = /usr/lib32/libdirect-1.2.so.0
./bin/glest.bin: error while loading shared libraries: libxerces-c.so.28: cannot open shared object file: No such file or directory

might building it from the source code change anything? If so, how do I do that?

Try downloading and extracting the latest alpha5 update (which has some of those missing libs in the lib folder)

http://soft-haus.com/glest/titi/megaglest3.3.5-alpha5_i386_linux_bin.tar.bz2

Today, I tested the windows version of the latest glest: megaglest3.3.5-alpha5_i386_win32.
But I found a problem: When I enter the game choose a good play against my faction with AI when the game was found in a time of loading data "glest not responding" and the game screen to black. In some cases the game is loaded process the data will automatically collapse, my operating system is windows vista
Thank you.

So I'm back on Suse. I downloaded the megaglest3.3.5-alpha8_i386_linux_bin today. Tried starting the game via the sh and kept looking at the glest.log. I was missing 3 or 4 dependencies because I only had the 64bit versions. Installed the 32bit ones and suddenly, when I ran the glest.sh again, the screen went black as if to start the game. But then it didn't. The glest.log says the following now:

Code: [Select]

This should be solved easily right?
