You'll need a recording screen capture software like camstudio and a video editor like Sony Vegas movie studio.

The stuff you need.

Two decent GPUs
A quad core processor
2 [preferably 4] gigs of RAM
Xfire,Fraps,Camstudio, or..the suckish hypercam 2/3
Imovie, Sony vegas, WMM [which sucks **** totally]

Well, you would need a screen recorder application.
For better quality, a better vid card, and a decent processor.
Video editors...if you need it.
A good codec...  ::)
and a fast Internet connection, if you are going to upload it...if to youtube, for sure...  ::)
http://camstudio.org/ (the (basically) and only free one, best...(if your settings + codec is good...)
You may have problems with audio though...but maybe I (or others...) could help you on that...  ::)

Anyways, depends on what type of video he wants to make...
if just gameplay, then it does not really need editing...
just good recording and such... and maybe converting for file size...  ::)
