Hi... Just quick question....
« on: 22 May 2010, 07:07:22 »
Hi... guys... I'm just joined the forum & very new here... as well as in modding and modelling.....  ;D
But I like to make a game very much, even since in age 8... :O I'm 28 now and still looking for a guide to make RTS game until I found Glest yesterday....hohohoho.. :O.. but....  :D
Since I didn't have any friend in my country knows about how to make a PC game, I'm lack almost in any aspect of the modder.  :-\
I have mod & edit some other game like STBC, but I think Glest need more experience from that. Right now I'm just starting to lear how to use Glest and looking for a complete guide from scratch for newbie.
What I want to know is :
1. Since my skill in more 2D, is Glest support for animated 2D model for their unit & building?  :cheesy:
nothing special, its just easier to make 2D, since I didn't 3d skill yet. (I think the example would be seem like Starcraft 1 (?) or Dark Colony) :P
2. Is Glest support for....hmm... how should I explain this? .. :|.. well for example, a specific unit/alien has a special ability to grab the soldier & drag him to the alien to be devoured... opps.. :P.. so may be : first ,there will be 2 animation in location point A & B (one soldier, one alien), then changed to a single animation (grab & drag) ,that first ,cover both of the location (from A to B) into a single location (A) when the devouring begin. Is Glest support them? ;D
3. Where I can bet a complete guide to make a whole game from scratch for newbie?  8)

Well that's all.... Thanks guys.....   ;)
Btw... am I put the post in the right forum?  :look: sorry my english is bad.... :P

Welcome, Kazemiya.
I have mod & edit some other game like STBC, but I think Glest need more experience from that.
Hmm... unfortunately I don't know what that is (Star Trek: Bridge Commander?), so I can't comment on whether it's easier or harder.

No, all buildings in Glest are 3D models.  However, maybe somebody would want your help with making icons or textures.  Those are two areas that a lot of people lack and that require 2D skills.

No.  That would require modifications to the engine (C++).

Have a look around http://glest.110mb.com.  It's not as complete as some people would like, but so far it's probably the best documentation for Glest we have, aside from the forum search bar.

Ow... thank you very much Guys....   8)
well...STBC could be a one of the most difficult to mod, they even can add some new technology into the game system, (sound like we'r inside the Star Trek film ourself... huh....hohoho  ;D) but in my case, I only add/replace & modifiying it's subsystem with an existing technology, so it's not much skill to do then.... :P

Umm... unfortunately... the Glest didn't support 2D or the feature I looking for.... right now... I'll start learning Glest....
Having problem with 2D? hohoho I'll like to help it... but perhaps for the next month, since my internet is almost dead now... I need to find a new one.... it's soo sloooow... :P
Btw I'm more experienced in 2D editing, so I'm not sure what's the difference between 2D & 3D's texture... wait until I learn 3D editing.... I planned to learn it soon enough by the way.... ;)

Ohya... thank you very much guys.... :O

3D UV mapping, as we call it is just like 2d in the begining, first, make a 2d image of the model, then expand it so it grows fatter and you can put it on your model, oh well, UV is the most difficulty for me atleast.
