new resource type!
« on: 14 June 2010, 00:01:44 »
i think this has been requested before, if so, i reinforce that idea

here it is, its a combination of Consumable resources and Static. essentially, the resource is produced (like at a building), and it is added to the stockpile. when something requiring that resource is needed, it is just taken out of the stockpile. this is different from consumable resources in that if you have 0, your guys wont die, you just have to wait until you have enough.

this would make a certain resource infinite, you are only limited on how much you can bring in.

see what im saying?

There is a resource like this already in MG have you ever played my penguin faction or mario? They have this for fish, and coins.
Get the Vbros': Packs 1, 2, 3, 4, and 5!

yeah, but those cost resources to make. i may have forgotten to make the point that the resources are free once you build the producer. the producer will automatically generate resources (so you will get resources without having to click on a button a certain amount of times). Has anyone played Supreme Commander 2? same principle.

Basically what you're asking for is a way to produce a tech/tileset resource like gold at a constant rate from a building, right?

The major disadvantage to this that I can see is reducing the need to expand and conquer more resources.

True but it could for example require ep, wood, food or something to mine gold or stone. After all the miners need tools, food and energy to work.

or maybe it could be for a resource that does not exist in the Megapack (like motivation or wealth)

You mean sort of like food? But not consumable?

exactly!

now, before anything is done about this, i forgot to mention that this resource would not be defined in the resource's XML, but in the XML of the producer.

<generate resource="yes">
    <resource name="gold" amount="10">
</generate resource>

would this work?
(the amount is how much of that resource you'd be given each game cycle)
