Magitech Revamp?
« on: 16 June 2010, 22:56:44 »
do you guys ever plan on releasing an "expansion" to the normal magitech factions? when i mean expansion, i mean an expanding of the factions. like, the Tech can get more steampunkish and the Magic can be more proficient in the mystical arts.

why do i ask for an expansion? because if they have been fighting for so long, you would think that they would become more advanced. so, i think that they need more expanding.

honestly, the two original factions seem so small compared to factions from other games, so why cant they get an upgrade?

Because Tucho and the others don't really have the time now, and/or for other reasons...so no probably...
If you want a response from them, you will probably need to wait a little while...
the closest thing is if people make high quality (or a high as the original models and such) are...then it's good...I guess. (Some that have been created are like that already, or so...)

Of course, it would be greeaaaattt...but...maybe in the future?  :|

...he was asking for an update by actually the original creators...mk2 is nice, but wouldn't be as nice if they actually did it...  ::)
It is one of the closest things though, for now...

Once again, FPM was never completed, and it was the closest there was to a magitech expansion. However, there was a few points:

-Community lacked interest. Not enough people h :Pelping
-AI cannot use sub factions
-Very incomplete
-Download may or may not be still available
-Some features, such as carrier units, weren't yet implimented (soon to come!)

I'm thinking if I ever see the GAE bugs like AI not using the sub factions (a vital must for FPM, which is very dependant on sub factions) as well as perhaps the carrier units. Daniel was a bit fussy about having some new plan to revamp the layout of FPM, so that set me behind when I tried to make it, but he never gave his ideas and I haven't seen him in a while, so we could just continue on.

If I did, It wouldn't be a true community project because those always fail, but individuals COULD help me with modeling. Of course, conflicting work would force production (or re-production, I should say) back a month or two.

If we did this would it be for GAE and no MG?

Of course, because it depends greatly on GAEs functions. In fact, GAE was originally made to create FPM, not the other way around.

Not unless MG wants to incorporate almost everything GAE has...

You must be behind on reading forum posts, because merging GAE and MG has proven practically impossible.

GW-pack will have tanks new aircraft, possibly hero units and new workers for tech, there may be cannons, magic will get new mages a phoenix, wyvern, undead, and sarissa armed ghost armor and a hero so thats what I'm doing right now as my main project
I think my personal redo of magitech should be good and it will be very balanced obviously it will come out with the gervoriath so it won't be like the original but still, in addition, when I started my topic almost no one except for Hypercube and tiger showed any signs of interest in helping with the project.

I don't think that's so. Programming-wise, its definately possible. Just has a degree of difficulty. It'd be possibly easier to simply see how MG does a something (in the basics) and code it from scratch into GAE.

Really though, after more players and the particles (I'm assuming that the map format will come with the more players). All MG really will have will be the server. Once its tested to be completely stable, GAE could probably merge that (since GAE recently reverted to Glest 3.2.2's multiplayer, the same thing MG built itself upon.

Really though, this is getting offtopic, so lets go back to talking about a magitech extension.

Wyvern, while I suppose your mod might fit in well for what Zoy is looking for, I personally can't see myself using heros as part as normal play. I still have bad memories of scenarios in other games where my main character couldn't die (or at least if they died, you'd be at a severe disadvantage).

Why do I not seem to be expressing enthusasm to your guy's mods? The mod board swamped me long ago. I no longer have time to view all these mods, especially with so many questions, _wannabes_, abandoned mods, and people requesting modellers (or an occasional modeller creating models). So its hard suited to find my posts on the mods board except on a select few topics.

I agree...takes a lot of extra time now...  :(

Well, originally, I think Zoy was asking for an update from the Glest Team...
now, I guess...well... I don't know, I keep thinking about the mod section...

If you want to do something for GAE, you might find this useful:

(click to show/hide)

It's an XML template I made that includes all commands and skills, as well as GAE-only features like effects and emanations.  Just delete or comment out the parts you don't need.  Also, obviously "search and replace all" to change "dentist" to the name of the unit, and you'll need to change the Moon-related directory names.

Or john, there is a GAE section on the glest guide that not only has the templates, but descriptions of what each value is for. It also separates the GAE only stuff from the normal glest stuff. Though seriously, this is even more offtopic.

The original question was if to expect an (official?) revamp of magitech. The answer is no. The glest team doesn't really work on glest any more, other than a bit of board maintenance and perhaps an occasional post. They have all moved on to new projects.

However, apparent from the posts here, theres a few people making UNOFFICIAL extensions to magitech, such as Four Path Magitech.
