No offense Gabbe I think your story is great but since I support the rpg style story I think that this should actually be a part of the whole thing, not the intro, I like the original going to town to invent a secret weapon thing more then out of the blue become a general, I think it should be that after you defeat the magic in cajouster, the king hears of your great commanding skills and gives you command of one of his armies and several specialist divisions, what do you think, I think it fits in more with the story, but up to you, by the way sign me up as a modeller, I can model too you know, map and story summary coming soon

heres a rough incorrectly set up summary of my storyline up to the victory at Coujester it is obviously based off of glest rpg but it does have several modifications, also I decided to temporarily name our character Bob till we figure out a proper name and question marks are for undecided names.
its a beautiful day in Coujester, a huge bustling merchant city in the land of the tech, Bob has lived here for most of his life but lately thing have been changing, the mages have been attacking tech settlements with more frequency lately and the marauders(combination of indians and egyptians), have been helping them burn their villages down. Bob, having been a military engineer in the past, is very concerned about these events and comes to the conclusion that a new super weapon must be designed to stop the mages once and for all, however he is still not convinced anyone can do it and so a year passes by before while on a conference he stays in a village that is attacked, he barely escapes with his life and decides something must be done, he quits his job as a mechanics professor at the Coujester University, and heads out to Mechloch city where his former teacher lives, after getting a job at the local university as a researcher he sets out to ask his teacher for help in his project, and so they set out to build a super weapon to scare magic off once and for all. So days pass into weeks which in turn pass into months and yet they still do not know how to construct and make usable the weapon they are designing. finally after a further year and a half of research they finally achieve their goal and design the weapon Bob decides to set out for the tech capital of ? to get a patent and have the weapon produced, the night prior to his departure however he is making final plans at his teachers house when they are attacked by a horde of daemons, his teacher sends him off for help but shortly after leaving he hears his teacher order the daemons to stop, he hides behind a barrel and watches in horror as they remove the plans for the weapon and flee into the night, he immediately grabs his horse and sets out to Coujester to alert the locals, sadly by the time he gets back he discovers that Coujouster is under siege by mages, he is chased by three daemons who he barely fights off before riding off for the nearby guardpost of Crashboom, sadly there are few troops left as most are out on patrols or fighting off raids, and so Bob rides off to find help somewhere else, he finds it in the form of the nearby cavalry squadron which after fighting off an attack from the mages, set out with a small detachment of dwarves assault troopers and a tank to help break the siege, facing such a monumental task they decide to play it safe and they send some of the dwarves to snipe the mages with their crossbows and rifles, the mages launch their cavalry to wipe them out but are beaten off by the assault troopers and dwarvish warriors, then Bob orders his cavalry and lone tank to charge in, swiftly the cavalry tramples the mages forcing them to retreat, some of the cities commanders send out troops to help, opening a corridor for Bob's forces to escape, however the mages counter attack and break this corridor, separating Bobs little force from safety, they are saved last second by a diviosion of elvish archers and tech crossbowmen who had been sent to help the defenders but were too late to do much. The mages withdraw west of the city and just out of bowshot to consider their options and to prepare for another offensive. As Bob is about to reach the city he is slashed with a sword and loses consciousness he reawakens in a field hospital the following day and is informed that the garrison had voted him to lead the defense of the city the mages get ready for another counterattack...
This is all I summarized so far, please comment on what You think about the storyline so far

I like all of your story except the him stating in the bar part, I think he should start working in the fields.

(up on  cliff side road the is a platoon of army maching)
(The boy in the fields hears a loud roar!)
(He drops the bucket and puling out his sword runs toward the forest boarding the fields)
(The king up on the ledge with hiw platoon hears the roar too and pulls out his tellacope)
(The king looks out and through his scope he can see the boy and the (some evil creature) advancing on each other)
(they battle for a wile both getting a few wounds)
(at last the boy wins)
(He wipes his brow and gows into the house)
(Veiw of the king close up Smiles and shake his head,)
(Veiws out and king rids away)...

Were not sure what the stories gonna be so far I personally think that the section Gabbe wrote would fit very well after the siege of Coujouster and it could explain how our character got his high position, we could also mention that he was a captain in the army prior to all of this story.
