I think that the closest era to this is rennaissance still glest is fantasy, plus there are more characters to develop then just those four, though that covers most of them, where would be a mix of europe and north america, woods, plains, mountains, clothing varies by faction, accent varies by region, what do you mean background?
I'm gonna make another topic to cover other stuff, this is a huge project and must be divided into itty bitty pieces, I'll update the timeline soon.

Ever played Final Fantasy IX? It's the best reference. Basically, medieval with steampunk elements.

This movie could help me get the stuff done for GW-pack, I'll upload my models soon(tank, new crocodile, commando, paratrooper, mechanon, bomber, wing flapper, super walker(maybe) ;D ;D), then I'll do the magic additions I have planned.

wyvern, I need to get thıs keep goıng now, model a forest, you are free to use any free models under a proper lıcense on the web, the forest wıll be your average canadıan forest.
