A new tool for glest?
« on: 7 July 2010, 21:35:01 »
Is it possible that we can create a program that simulates your model sizes and compares it to another model and imports tiles sets so then we can see visually how our model matches with the tileset?  ::) Its hard for me to check my model sizes since i can't import g3d models and I already lost my axeman model so I can't really compare my models and I can't run glest smoothly on this computer and even if I can it would take a whole lot of time back and forth in glest to find the perfect size and texture elements  :'(. This tool can be very useful for modelers and tile set creators.

You mean you're having trouble determining the size of your model?  One unit in Blender is equal to one unit in Glest.

One blender unit (square on the grid) is one size/height unit in glest. In short, most humanoids are about 2 units tall. Same applies to size.

Also, why is your importer not working? It works 100% fine here.

Yah, the square you start with in blender is slightly smaller then a horse man, each square on the grid is like 1 glest cell map.
Get the Vbros': Packs 1, 2, 3, 4, and 5!

Actually each cross point on the grid lines is the center of a Glest cell, the squares which the grid lines create are about the size of a Glest cell.
As for height.....well that works the same way. A swordsman is about two Glest units tall so he's slightly taller than the starting cube.
Just to put a little more detail in there.

As for getting Python 2.5..........I suppose I could upload my Blender version(which I think is already available for download in the old FDC), which has the importer installed and working great. ;)

EDIT: Here ya go: http://www.python.org/download/releases/2.5/
If this doesn't work, I'll upload my Blender version. :)

That should work fine. I have python 2.5 and 2.6, and use blender 2.49. If you are windows, make sure you are installing to the right location. In order to use the install directory, you must have (1) set that when installing blender and (2) have admin privilleges and have UAC *OFF*. Linux can always use the install directory. No clues about macs...
