« on: 8 July 2010, 01:37:44 »
Hi im new to the glest world and forum.

Im aware this is a free software.

What do i have to do first, im thinking in useing the megaglest program.

Im want to create a game that take place in the 1840 and beyond, musket, rifles, canons etc.

Would it be really hard to make a game like that?

What programas do I need?

I already got GIMP but i need free software because I dont have money to buy software right now.

Could you help me with guides how to make things like textures, models, maps, cofigurations, movements etc.

I want to make a games based at that era, im new to this of game making dont really know much of script, and how tu use programs. im 16   :look:

All help is really apreciated  :)

You would need Blender for sure, I think.
Ideas.
Etc.
And to know how to play Glest...
Hmm...1840? Kinda specific.  :| Hmm...

Yeah near that time make maybe 2 factions with muskets, and rifles, canons, calvery etc something similar to the napoleonic age, but first start with a small proyect.

Ill search for blender thx by the way  :)

its kinda hard to do something like that, but not impossible if you don't give up :)
First, learn about blender. Then, analyse the xml codes of every faction to learn how it works. I can help u a bit if u want :) If i'm not too busy :)

Most likly it would be a mod, starting to enter the code and game creating world.

Ill likly start learning the basic then start learning how do mod them.

I had seen the FAQ and have download all basic programs from blender to notpad ill start with glest first to get the basics.

THX BTW.  :)

See the Glest Guide to learn everything from modelling to modding the entire engine. It should be able to teach you most of the things you want to learn. Of course, you will generally need:
-Blender
-GIMP/Paint.Net/etc
-Text Editor (recommended Notepad++)
-Audacity (or some method of audio editor for sound effects, etc)

You can consider learning Lua for scripted scenarios, though MegaGlest is very lacking for Lua scripting (GAE is recommended for that, take a look at it on the GAE board of this site).

Happy learning! :)

You should try playing glest first til you get used to it and know how to play then try that 1840's idea you have which BTW seems really cool

XML isn't hard to learn. Blender is. Omega's Glest Guide is very good, but it has some weak spots like animation, which would be better learned talking to an animator like myself or John.d.h, I learned by getting confused at Omega's animation guide, and then talking to Eliminator about how to rig, I learned very basic rigging and animation from him, and then I talked to John.d.h about more sophisticated rigs(A rig is the bone structure). NOTE: Rigging is something you can learn, and doesn't take much skill once you get used to it, but animation takes a lot more skill and you have to figure it out mostly for yourself. You know all those movies and 3D games with awesome animation? They make it look easy, but trust me it's a bit harder than it looks.
I'm 13 BTW.

Yeah, only similar, since the Napoléonic age ended like 30 years ago :) That 1840-1850's is more likely the "Dawn of Nations" (or what the heck it's English name is) era. In this era, not just muskets were in use, but pikes were also popular against cavalry. (In WW1 swords and other close combat weapons were still in use, as well as cavalry...). And rifles just came into use in the WW1.

You don't need to do much to make a game like this, I have lots of factions with guns and cannons. You just need to make the faction.
Get the Vbros': Packs 1, 2, 3, 4, and 5!

Some people would rather...not to do that.  :| I think people either do that, or what RodEagle is doing... err.  :|
