Hi kingnothing,

your CPU may not be able to cope with this game. I have a current dual-core (Core2duo) mobile CPU and mine's rather busy.

Still, the game should not just crash. Can you put a copy of the error report into a spoiler box here, please?

Edit: better do as Softcoder says, that's much more helpful.

Glest requires OpenGL (and a sound card, but the sound card requirement will be optional in the next alpha).

try turning on debug and tell us what the last 5-10 lines are in debug.log. To tuirn on debug edut glestuser.ini and add:

DebugLogFile=debug.log
DebugMode=true

Thanks

the glestuser.ini was not found so after comparing the installation folder between 7 and XP
i found lots of files missing so i copied the entire folder frm 7 to XP
and then enabled debug mode in glestuser.ini.......but the game is not reaching there at all
the cmd is not reading or unpacking any file or command
it just opens stays black n then opens the error

@ tomreyn
here r the errors from event log

delete the entire MG folder and use the full installer, sounds like you didn't properly install on the XP computer.

@ softcoder
the glestuser.ini was not found so after comparing the installation folder between 7 and XP
i found lots of files missing so i copied the entire folder from 7 to XP
and then enabled debug mode in glestuser.ini.......

If you have very different files in your Windows XP and Windows 7 installation from the same installer then something must have gone wrong when you installed on XP. 'glestuser.ini', however, isn't required to make the game work (you should use/create it to setup debugging, though, as softcoder suggested, and as you did).

but the game is not reaching there at all
the cmd is not reading or unpacking any file or command
it just opens stays black n then opens the error

How have you verified that glest_game.exe does not read any files before it crashes? Also, is it safe to assume you have verified that the debug.log file is not created? The game would already write to debug.log in its startup phase, while not generating any output on screen, yet.

@ tomreyn
here are the errors from event log
[..]
And if u want i have the info log with the help of DrWatson......lol
from the error event ..........but way big....then i have to upload

Thanks, but no, thanks, since this info is actually much less useful than I hoped for (thanks M$).

redownload thought of that but the same file worked on windows 7 why not on win XP
as for reinstall tried it.............didn't work
will redownload.......hope it works

What exactly did not work when you tried to reinstall? Did you receive an error message, if so, what did it say? If not, how did you determine reinstalling failed?
Please try the following (on your Windows XP system):
  • uninstall the game
  • make sure you remove (or rename) the %SystemDrive%\%ProgramFiles%\MegaGlest directory (this is probably "C:\Program Files\Megaglest" in your setup) including any files it contains.
  • check and report (here) how much free disk space you have
  • run the game installer, tell us what the file you are running is called exactly (filename)
  • check and report (here) how much free disk space you have now
  • Create or edit %SystemDrive%\%ProgramFiles%\MegaGlest\glestuser.ini directory (this is probably "C:\Program Files\Megaglest\glestuser.ini" in your setup) using wordpad (not notepad, not Ms Word) and ensure it says:

    DebugLogFile=debug.log
    DebugMode=true

  • Option 1: Run the game as you usually would, report to us whether the same error occurred again
  • Option 2: Click Windows Start button, then 'Execute' (or 'Search' on Vista and Windows 7) "cmd.exe". A console window will open. Enter this to start the game (press return at end of line) - you can copy & paste using context menu:

    cd %SystemDrive%\%ProgramFiles%\MegaGlest
    glest_game.exe

Next, copy and paste any output generated by the game there to a spoiler section on this board or to http://megaglest.pastebin.com/ (providing us with the URL you end up with there) or send it to softcoder or me by email or personal message (note this is a one-time, not a general invitation to do so).
  • Copy and paste %SystemDrive%\%ProgramFiles%\MegaGlest\debug.log (this is probably "C:\Program Files\Megaglest\debug.log"  in your setup) to a spoiler section on this board or to http://megaglest.pastebin.com/ (providing us with the URL you end up with there) or send it to softcoder or me by email or personal message (note this is a one-time, not a general invitation to do so).

On a side note, I would appreciate if you could use complete words such as 'have' instead of 'hv' or 'are' instead of 'r' since it makes reading and understanding your reports easier. So please help us to help you.

the installer works great. But the game when i uninstalled and removed the file and reg files then reinstalled it gave the same error
so i checked my cmd .I play alot of old games that use Batch files and opened another programs and and windows games using CMD that means it is not my cmd
so i opened the topic
I have open GL and openAL I use alot of games need open GL and AL
as for the sound card I have a sound card Pro

Please try the following (on your Windows XP system):

  • uninstall the game
  • make sure you remove (or rename) the %SystemDrive%\%ProgramFiles%\MegaGlest directory (this is probably "C:\Program Files\Megaglest" in your setup) including any files it contains.

As for your wish it can be easily done
as for the list
uninstalling done removed files and reg files
45.877.710.848bytes   42.7 GB brefore
45.346.070.528bytes   42.2 after installing and before clicking OK to run game in the end of installer added the glestuser.ini and then clicked ok.The size remained the same. The game didnot launch at all no debug.log no new files(BTW none of the editor configure or 3d viewer work.I find that strange)
the file name is glest_game.exe on c while in startup is Mega-Glest - 3.5.5(i didnpot install the alpha)
I tired to run it using CMD by giving the command but not as u said i have to go ther manually
(click to show/hide)
but gave the same error
here is the error that is generated by my windows
(click to show/hide)
this one is copied from the gray error report content not from the event viewer. hope it helps more
and i say again the debug.log was not generated.that means the game never ran.
Hope i didnot forget anything

i rarely copy paste things
but if you were right...then cmd would have replied files is not found which was not the case
here it was a typing mistake like the one happened to you.you wrote motice instead of notice

This differs a lot, but there are often people around their computers, you just need to talk to them. Try addressing softcoder and me next time you're around (just mention our nicknames in the channel), and have the URL of this forum thread handy. I read up on Lebanon on opennet.org and it says Internet access is expensive in your area. So if you cannot remain online for half an hour or so then IRC might not actually be the media of choice and the forum may be better suited. However, _if_ you can, then IRC surely is a good idea. If you're having trouble with the web chat then please consider installing an IRC client such as XChat from http://www.silverex.org/

Actually he was here after you came "yesterday", after a few minutes or so. Just that you timed out...

Yeah, try a IRC Client if you are having problems with the webchat.
http://www.silverex.org/download/xchat-2.8.6-2.exe

You can either "open a dialog window" to softcoder or message him with his nickname, such as...
softcoder: Are you there?

Good Luck...

We (kingnothing + tomreyn, and later kingnothing + softcoder) did meet on IRC yesterday and the plan is now that kingnothing will update XP to SP3 and try then. SP2 will no longer receive security updates anyways. If the problems persist we can take another look.

That is unfortunate. We tried our best but we cannot help everyone. As a side note, load outputting the version # from MG did not work (which means, no sound or graphics engines have been started). Vanailla Glest does not work for this user either, so its a mystery as to why his version of Windows XP does not work (his Windows 7 computer works).

When we discussed this on IRC you said glest 3.2.2 did not work on your problematic XP system.

Quote
<kin9n0thin9> it is working
<kin9n0thin9> i am using windows 7 while the game on the other pc windows xp
<kin9n0thin9> 2 pc next to each other
<softcoder> wait!
<softcoder> the one working in windows 7 and bad in xp?
<kin9n0thin9> yeap
<softcoder> different computers?
<kin9n0thin9> yeap
<softcoder> dude! test MG on windows 7
<kin9n0thin9> it works like sharm
<softcoder> it will work.. and try normal glest on your XP computer
<kin9n0thin9> i said that in the thread
<softcoder> test normal glest in XP
<softcoder> just copy the folder
<softcoder> that should be good enough
<kin9n0thin9> tried it
<softcoder> does it fail?
<kin9n0thin9> yeap it failed

Perhaps there was a misunderstanding.

yeah was just reading it
the misunderstanding was from me here when i answered
Quote
<kin9n0thin9> glest 3.3.2 works
<softcoder> if normal glest runs i will be surprised since MG is very much the same but with smaller updates
<softcoder> did you test it just now?
<kin9n0thin9> what r the changes from 3.3.2 to 3.3.5
<softcoder> or only in the past
<kin9n0thin9> yeah just installed and ran it
<kin9n0thin9> it is working
<kin9n0thin9> i am using windows 7 while the game on the other pc windows xp
<kin9n0thin9> 2 pc next to each other
<softcoder> wait!

<kin9n0thin9> yeap
<softcoder> dude! test MG on windows 7
<kin9n0thin9> it works like sharm
<kin9n0thin9> i said that in the thread

when i answered i meant i was chatting using win 7

k here to say it again more clear
on windows 7 glest 3.3.2 and mega glest 3.3.5 works
while on xp glest 3.3.2 works while mega glest 3.3.5 does not work

guess you understood me right since you answered this
Quote
<kin9n0thin9> glest 3.3.2 works
<softcoder> if normal glest runs i will be surprised since MG is very much the same but with smaller updates

Mega glest 3.3.5 is based on glest 3.3.2 or mega glest started on older version and you and your team updated it separated from glest version and updates

Mega-Glest is based on 3.2.2 with some bugfixes and updates. None of the updates would cause the type problem your are having thought. The only main different is that old Glest uses an older Microsoft compiler while MG uses VC++ 2008 express.

Just a thought: Do you need and ship the VC Redistributable Package with your installer? And what are your compile flags? He uses an P 3, so no SSE2.

Good catch Yggdrasil, that is likely the issue since we in fact DO compile with SSE2. PErhaps I should change it to just SSE for the next build, I think we will try it for the next alpha.

Edit:

You can try a temp build of the binaries which use normal SSE (not SSE2) but downloading from:

http://www.soft-haus.com/glest/temp/megaglest3.3.5.1-alpha3_i386_win32_bin.7z

Let me know if this works.
