Our laws only keep the government from infringing on your freedom of speech, not individuals. ;)

Anyway, the key thing to remember is that this is the Glest forum.  It's not a political forum, it's not /b/, and it's not even a general gaming or free software forum.  I think it's a good thing that we have the off-topic board, as it builds community and whatnot, and it's a good place to ask questions and talk about our common interests.  However, remember that it's a privilege, and we don't have to have it.  The way it is now, I think it's fine, but if it becomes a distraction (like when the religion thread was still relevant), I'd say that's a bad thing.  In general, I'd say it's good to steer away from highly-controversial topics.  Personally, I don't think this one is especially bad, but others have been.

By the way, I think it's probably better to lock threads than delete them in most cases, so the thread stays here for reference.  That's my opinion, anyway.

While I don't think the US's actions are anything but good (in most cases), its true that they define "good" with their actions. If they decide something, its right and every one else is wrong. It's really all a matter of perspective. Nobody thinks of themselves as bad, even the terrorists think what they are doing is good. Thus, good and bad is all a matter of perspective.

Also, no country is perfect, and all have their faults. While the US may be basically "good" (from the perspectives of its own citizens), it does have some bad things as well (seen by public opinions of some government choices, such as Obama's "cash-handout" and the war on Iraq).

As for deletion of topics, its best off to lock them, in my opinion, because otherwise links may become broken (such as cross topic quotes) as well, unless it violates the board rules, there's no complusive need for it to be deleted, or even locked. While its definately a biased topic and may be controversal for the many of us who are non-american, it doesn't do any harm and should it get out of hand, can be locked.
