It is possible but setting somehting in glest.ini, but:
We decided not to do it, because this restriction is also something that makes glest somehow interisting to play. If this restriction would not exist people would play glest with max zoomed out and just move pixels around. This would skip all the enjoyment when looking at the models and would end up in a completly different gaming experience. I think the SpringRTS have this kind of ultra zoom and for me (personally) this killed the fun playing it.
In MG's multiplayer you cannot override the default zoom, so everyone is forced to play with the same view. Thats why I suggest to play with the current zoom. But if you really want it I can tell you the switch in the ini.
Other features have a similar problem, for example:
- Map preview in custom menu: It kills the fun discovering an unknown map ( especially if too detailed )
- Autorepairmode and lots of Micromanagement in general: On the one hand very nice, but on the other hand the player is no longer the one who plays the game
