weight painting problems in blender
« on: 18 September 2010, 17:44:16 »
When I'm in weight painting mode I always have the problem that I paint things I don't wanted to paint, becasue its hard to paint hidden parts of the model. I tried to hide some vertices in edit mode, but it didn't effect the weight paint mode.

Anyone knows a trick how to hide things in weight paint mode?

Alt-B is convenient for that.

what is the official "use" of atl+b? does it just hide vertices or just show the ones you selected?

It essentially takes a "slice" of your model and shows only that.  It's not only vertices, as it will show partial faces and edges as well, even if the attached vertices are hidden.  Use B to get everything back to normal.  It's very convenient for working with things that have inside parts, like if you wanted to do the back of somebody's eyes, you could remove the back of the head to see what you're doing.

results from the chat:

alt-f: toggles into another mode where you can see the vertices/edges and faces. There you can use alt+h to hide vertices/faces and h to bring them back.

beside of this you can also use alt-b, some kind of box select which makes only those parts visible which are in the select. Press alt+b again to see all again.

I never use weight paint. I only use vertex groups.

That's fine... you know, if you want to work harder for no benefit. :P

Tried this?:
f: toggles into another mode where you can see the vertices/edges and faces.

You don't need to go into edit mode to see if the vertices are selected.  They should be bright friggin' red.

I was saying this can help you unselect specific vertices.

Any reason you can't do that just as easily in weight paint mode? :look:

Maybe its a personal preference, and in edit mode you know exactely what your getting and for me, it is better to see the vertices actually belonging to the group.
