Game hosts should be able to move players to different slot
« on: 20 September 2010, 20:39:53 »
When you host a network game, you should be able to move other players to a different player slot. You are the host, so you should be able to define all aspects of the game (well, despite of the player names, I guess).

INdeed, I think that players should be able to decide their factions...

EDIT: i mean the host shoudnt decide their factions  either.

I think you misunderstood my suggestion (?), players are already able to choose their faction by themselves.

Beside of the possibility to move players to other slots you also need a possibility change the positions of two players ( which is way more tricky )

Try Megaglest! Improved Engine / New factions / New tilesets / New maps / New scenarios

As of now (svn code) the slot IS the player position (as shown via player colors in the player title and the map) so you now know where you will start on the map and what you color will be. Chat text also shows the playername in their player color. So changing their position is the same as changing their slot now.

Well, for now it would be sufficient if the host could move a player to another free network slot. That's basically the same thing the server does automatically when new users connect. What's missing is a UI, i.e. a target slot selection and a button ("move to < 1..8 > [OK]").

Eh, for now if the client/player doesn't respond/ say ok, I guess the host will just have to kick them...
