[invalid] Two graphics bugs, v3.3.7
« on: 14 October 2010, 00:27:22 »
This happened whenever my Summoner would attack.  You can see her cape is gone, and there's a big purple splash all over the camera... so maybe her cape is flying up?  I know that doesn't make much sense, but that's what it looks like.

and here's one from the menu:

I noticed this same behavior in GAE 0.3.1, but not 0.3, so maybe this is from whatever you guys did with the shadows and transparency stuff?

Linux Mint 9 Isadora 32-bit

the first screenshot looks like a driver problem
the second one looks like a dying gfx card. Waht you see are typically ram  errors. I think your system got too hot maybe?
Try Megaglest! Improved Engine / New factions / New tilesets / New maps / New scenarios

It's running a little hot, but I don't think it's bad enough to cause problems.  This is on one of the computers at uni, so I'll test on my home computer later.

Do other 3D games on the same computer work fine?
atibox: Ryzen 1800X (8 cores @3.6GHz), 32 GB RAM, MSI Radeon RX 580 Gaming X 8G, PCI subsystem ID [1462:3417], (Radeon RX 580 chipset, POLARIS10) @3440x1440; latest stable Ubuntu release, (open source) radeon (amdgpu) / mesa video driver

You know what?  I've never tried! ;D I'd download Warzone 2100 and give it a shot, but this is running from my USB stick, which has very little remaining space.  I've never seen the glitch before in GAE 0.3 or MG 3.3.6, though.

Oh, and it turns out GAE 0.3.1 did update the shadow and transparency stuff, and since the glitch appears in both forks since the update but neither fork before the update... I know correlation doesn't equal causation, but it's sure pointing a finger in that direction.

On the other hand, so far, you're the only one experiencing this.

Please try another 3D game and report your findings. For the most simple (but also quite incomplete) test, just run glxgears.

Even if this is the case, its simply a driver bug.
If it will turn out that it will be a common problem for people which cannot be solved with a driver update soon,
I can add a switch for it in glest.ini.

But I would really hate it to add this switch!

which grafik card is this ? Ati or Intel lol?

Intel.  I tried to recreate it on my home box, also Intel, and couldn't.  It could maybe be the heat, but it seems like too big of a coincidence.  It's not a huge bug, as the weird rainbow thing only happens in the menu as far as I've seen, and the summoner cape thing only happened during that one game... so I don't think I'd turn off the new transparency just for that.
