How would a simulation game like this work out and what engine?

Very first stage of the earth with one microbe that becomes bigger and bigger into creatures and species. Like a earth sim, but you only get to see a little area of earth were it is going on, so that new creatures and microbes constantly enter and leaves the area you can see at a sensible random rate. The way you will interact is by calling in random events.

If you're interested in this kind of game, maybe you could help on the Thrive project? Or you could wait till its finished and mod it then, because it is freeware and open source. Then again it won't be done in a while... along while.

yes like spore, but without the cartoon gfx.

Thrive sounds definately interesting, but their site randomly becomes unavailiable, and there hasn`t been any news lately, are you sure the development is still going?

Really? The site works fine for me. But There are posts every day on their forums, it is definitely still in the works.
