New Map: Swamp Islands
« on: 22 November 2010, 19:59:48 »
This is my new map Swampland Islands
This map is made for 8 players and has plenty of gold around the map.
This map was made for beginners for 3 simple reasons 1. Easy to navigate 2. Lots of resources and 3. your starting spot is almost completely closed off from everyone else giving you time to set up your base yet it is easy for you to exit.

There are a total of 23 islands big and small. I have tested the map on all 8 players and all of them are easy to use.

Here is the download link.  http://www.mediafire.com/file/m2v65pn46z6d3e6/Samp%20Islands.gbm

Have fun and leave comments.  :D

Please post an image of the map (in game, NOT a map editor image). This is easily done with GAE or MG. You may have to change the maxrenderdistance and maxcameradistance to larger numbers, such as 1024 in order to be able to zoom out that far.

Hmm... first thing I see is that it should be a mgm... but it looks interesting. Might try it tomorrow. Some islands seem to need to have more paths.

The map file type needs to be changed to .mgm or it will crash vanilla Glest.

I think you've got that backwards...

This is what happens when an .gbm multiplayer file extension map is placed into the vanilla Glest map folder.

So Vanilla Glest doesn't read .mgm files, and therefore doesn't crash it?

Yeah...the solution would to add some more paths, I think.

Yes, that, as well as to ensure there are no "catches" where units get stuck... Oh and post an image of the map in the first post.

Find a file called glest.ini or glestadv.ini.  Open it up and...
change the maxrenderdistance and maxcameradistance to larger numbers, such as 1024
Then play a game with your map (make sure to turn shroud and fog of war off), and zoom all the way out so you can see the whole map.  Hit 'e' to take a screenshot.  The resulting screenshot should be in your Glest directory in the /screens folder.

If that's too complicated for you, just take a screenshot of the map in the editor to at least give us some idea of what to expect.

Upload your screenshot to a site like imageshack.us and paste the "forum thumbnail" link to the thread.

Downloaded it, then I remembered of the path issues that I can immeatildy see. Also some players are closer to the gold...so not balanced. Then I saw MG didn't recognize it cause of the wrong format...
So I renamed it, changed the format, and etc...

Edit: tested this map, pathways need to be improved and placing too, (equal distance from gold, etc.)
