rome total war open conversation
« on: 4 December 2010, 12:34:11 »
hello. this is an open talk for ROME: TOTAL WAR amazing RTS game. its one of the best honestly...

but grand ages: rome is MUCH better. i have'nt played grand ages of rome but i saw it. its rating.. and it is fantastic!

let me open a conversation start. lat us all join in here. this will make the glest site abit more fun. this is an improvment.

my point of conversation is: militia hoplites or levy pikemen? this talk has been a huge arguement in the rome total war societies and diffrent places. let us talk about we might be able to set an answer.

now i love both of militia warrior hoplites and levy pikemen. but i like levy pikemen more. because of their looks and disciplane and perfectly good morale (not realy high morale but still does the job to me) and also the extremley long spears. plus thier huge number. levy pikemen are a good unit for mass use and spam. i like it. how ever the levy pikemen have this unique and very powerfull advantage of the extremley long spears.

let me explain it to you, the longer the spear is. the more you can slow down and perhaps stop shorter pike units to advance and start hitting your guys. also long pikes are even able to halt down sword units very perfectly if used at a very good effeciency of their line. the thicker your line. the less of your men will use their spears. but thicker lines provide alittle better defence against ranged attacks. thin lines are bad. the thinesst line you can get is 2 ranks. it makes your troops suffer from less defense of halting back charges. and a much lowered attack. because only tow spears are avilable at once. tow men one behinde other is frontened. bring much less spears to attack any enemy unit closing by your spears. and a huge charge of thick enemy rank can pentrate THROUGH the spears without flanking and break the spear wall and hit the thin line and the spearmen will take their swords out and become swordsmen. they are fit and good enough in sword fighting. but their defense becomes less when they turn swordsmen. but their attack is increased with swords. depends on the situation and type of units and terrien. let me tell you how to bring spear men to their full use and effectivness. poeni infantry have short spears. thats a huge dis advantage for any phalanx unit. short spears can be even pentrated even by a cavalry charge. only 3 soldiers behinde eachother can use their spears. like only 3 lines is bringing poeni infantry to full use. ony 3 lines can take down their spears. making it 4 lines means 3 lines will use spears while the fourth one will raise their spears up. those with spears up are nearly completley unused in combat. but they help prevent light javlines and arrows from killing the phalanx troops.thats why shorter spears are usually useless..... because less men will use their spears. others will stay in the back. longer spears. mean more men use their spears. levy pikemen can have more attack. not in their stats. but in the number of spears avilable at the front line. they will equel legionary (and if conditons and positon is right) can beat an urban cohort!!!!! :o :o :o

you cant beat out a spartan hoplite unit with 1 levy pikemen unit. just put guard mod on for your pikemen. sit back let them come and attack. if you order attack or set guard mod off or get caught out of a disciplaned formation your dead. the reason is because that the levies will keep thrusting their spears forward and keeping the short spear wielding spartans at bay.

at a roman fight. militia hoplites lose because of the insufficant length of spears. and the lower attack and fewer spears in a lines.

but the levy pikemen. they only lost from the thrown pilum. afterwards. the legionaries or hastati or principes etc.
the strong and powerful sword armed roman troops usually pentrate a phalanx by a frontal and thick rank and dreadfull charge. they will run thru the spears without stopping. they stop if they get pushed by many thrusting spears or killed. because the're extra velunarble to spears while walking or running or charging. but the levies had 5 spears forward. thats very deadly. an early legionary cohort attacked. but this time i dident give them pila. i let them shoot it at a skirmisher unit. and the romans make their famous phalanx breaking charge. but this time fails hard. the levies' large number of pointed forth spears thrust to kill any attempter to break the line. a roman charge is to break the spears from forward. the rest will halt back while the few brave will break thru the spears and reach closley to the line. then. some of the phalanx troopers in the line will quickly take out swords and daggers to fight back. creating a small gab with no spears filling it. for the roman troops to walk thru it and break back the phalanx with ease.

levies thrusted their spears at the pentraters leaving them no chance of survival. the levies had the lengthy spears. if they all push forward they will start masskilling because theres lots of spears avilable at the fight to hit the enemy and kill them,

might this have helped i hope?

cheers!  :)

C'mon warlord, why do we have to talk about CA's totalwar(especially why only Rome? :dead:)franchise in here glest forum?

There is already a huge fansite network in the totalwar - like twcenter.net - you can talk a lot about totalwar at there.

To be honest,I was the one who love the franchise,I have played all games of the franchise, from the first Shogun:TW to the latest Napoleon:TW.Totalwar is the one of the best strategic game series.

but I found no good reason for talk about the game in here.

i cant just register there in some where i dont realy like at all. just open the door and say

"hello can i talk about rome total war militia hoplites versus levy pikemen"

i dont play shogun 2 because its not out already. and napoleon is too rough for my computer

al salam alikum? thats the greeting not goodbying one!

say bye bye or "masalamah.

to be translated. al salam alikum "peace upon you"
masalamah "be with peace"

theres no need for a huge reason to talk for topics. small ones will serve

you now talk like the admins arent ya :o!!!! looking for a point "whats good only for glest"

whats a good reason to talk about? ::)

let me see. like our aircraft thread we can go to a forum of history or read wikipedia,

and my movies thread? we can see the movies right?

this is off topic. making the community more healthy and initiative :) like this yellow face

cheers mate! glad you love it too! too bad and horrible my computer is not high enough to run shogun total war :(

i can run NTW but when i saw the game. there was huge gaps and glitches and bugs and graphical issues and lag.

the models turned into huge painted balls

and there was horse not rided. evrything was crappy.

shogun 2 is gonna be more better so my computer wont be able to probably even run it at all....

Yeah, you're right,I'm not an admin so I shouldn't decide whether this thread is appropriate or not for this forum. :-X
It's up to admins about the decision for now.
