I wish I could join you,I think I have a good enough PC(Core2DUO E8500,4GB memory,HD4850) to play online.
but the connection distance is a my problem. If I play with european or americana players,it will cause significant lag on the game. :dead:

Hagekura you talk about lag problems? Have you tried it?

I( from europe ) usually don't have serious problems to play with people from US, Brasil or South Africa for example! Usually the real problem for lags is bad hardware on one client or server.  The only network related problem are disconnects! But these typically happen with WLAN or Mobile Phone based networks. All ping times below 500ms are somehow Ok from what we learned. And 500ms is a lot!

So you should really really try to play online and test your mod :) .

Shouldn`t be a problem for you hagekura, with that computer i bet you got a decent connection aswell, i play with japanese players on other games i have 192ms to them, and that is a lot too, but if Titi says 500ms is no problem I cant imagine anything will be ;)

Just join us on IRC some time.

Most players seem to be in Europe and the Americas, so time zones might be an issue.

If this is indeed what the topic is: Omega recommends for christmas, to buy your loved ones an ATI graphics card. Just because ATI shows you care more than Nvidia. ;)

Here's some cheap, but very good, ones:
HD 4890 ($52)
HD 4850 ($50)
HD 5770 ($95)

Not cheap, but power to burn:
HD 6850 ($203.50)

I`d reccomend nVidia if you play other games than glest that takes advantage of physX or 3d vision, but ATI if you play glest only, it has more nice AA and supports up to 6 monitors ard, atleast on 5870 and 6870. on the others 4xxx i think 3.

Ati cares for customers ...... Nvidia has working drivers  8)

But beside this dumb bashing lets regard Linux:
Nvidia has good and working linux drivers. Atis proprietary drivers are simply buggy and they don't care for customers ...
The upcoming free drivers for Ati ( which I think will be much better than the original ones ) are still not really ready to use yet and not available for latest Ati hardware.

Thats why I recommend nvidia! Everyone should be able to use Linux  ;D .

nVidia got awesome features, physX, 3d vision, CUDA and more, I use ATI because they are cheap and easy, also they have multidisplay monitor technology (eyefinity). Drivers have never ever cause any problems of mine. But nVidia cards get hot as hell, who wants a fried egg while browsing?

Now that AMD is in control with the power of ATI, let's see if they boast any new features. ATI is raw power, Nvidia is weaker power with all kinds of features. :P

So just how easy/difficult is it to install one of these things?  I'm going to be opening up my laptop case to replace my keyboard whenever I have some extra money, so I figure I might as well change some more things that are "inadequate".

Laptop graphics cards are pretty weak, but I think maybe you could get a mobility radeon... I'm not sure but that would be pretty good. I have a dedicated Radeon HD 3200 with 256mb VRAM, but you can get newer dedicated laptop cards that would definitely be better ;).

@johndh: replacing graphic cards in notebooks is usually impossible.
There are some more expensive models out there with soe kind of normed slots, but the typical notebook does not have any graphics slots .
Graphics chips are a part of the motherboard .

@Archmage: That ATi always worked on linux is simply not true! There are some (older)cards out there which work, but thats all. I think most Ati chipsets have serious problems in linux especially when it comes to 3d and gaming. 2d works for most of them.
But nearly none of the Ati linux drivers ever reached the quality of nvidias drivers yet!

I <3 HP. My laptop is HP and runs flawlessly, much better than my last Toshiba...

You'd be hard suited to find a computer that comes with a power supply good enough to upgrade to more powerful stuff. But, you can always just upgrade or get another power source.
