Random Tilesets
« on: 27 December 2010, 07:38:13 »
The ability to chose the option "random" for a tileset in the game, and the tileset will be randomly chosen from all available tilesets. I also propose that the same option is given for maps. Together, this can make every game feel completely unique, and I would really like to see it. Megaglest has just done this for tilesets:

Maps? Yes Sir.
Tilesets? No thank you.

I myself have preferred tilesets. I usually opt for Dark Forest, Scrubs or Evergreen. Tilesets are purely aesthetic, so I don't really see any point in this.

I think this is a great idea

The drop-down tileset menu can include the "random" option, for those of us who want to be surprised

Sorry, the name of my thread was a little ambiguous. The MG guys knew what I meant.

The patch randomly chooses an item from the listbox *when creating* a custom game, because many people don't bother to choose a tileset. I hadn't thought of adding a "random" item to the listbox.

It's not forced, mate. It's just another option, and if you don't want it, there's no need to use it, but those who do want it can use it. Yes, tilesets are just to look good, but they can completely change the feel of the map, especially when combined with random starting positions and/or random maps. Plus, it's LITERALLY a two line fix (or at least in MG, and can't be too different).
