i agree with claymore this is a genuise and well thaught list of improvements, well done!

i also made a list before, most modders dident agree and actually got angry from it, i hope they agree with yours, if they dont, im making a list of admins that should be completly kicked, such as deleting my soundtracks topic and leaving another new one to go, is it in the ruls that one's topic deleted while othr's not?

fail

even if one posted a dozen of useless topics but one with a meaning it should be kept, not deleted and leaving others to exploit it.

You're not doing yourself any favors by posting more useless garbage in other people's threads.  I'm splitting this from where you posted it because it doesn't belong there, so now you've got your own topic in which you can take issue with whatever your specific gripe is.  However, more of this passive-aggressive whining is not desired, and the same goes for temper tantrums.  Thus, if you want to file a well-thought-out and well-mannered complaint about an issue you're having with moderation (preferably citing specific examples), this is the topic for that.

First of all, please review the forum rules. You'll save a lot of grief by not violating them in the first place.

Nextly, new guidelines to moderators in 2011 have already pre-dated your post, including the need to justify removing topics. First off, the off topic board is just for casual use. The glest board's are about glest first. This isn't just a place to come and socialize. There's hundreds of those places all over the web, and if you just want to talk to people, they are the place to do so.

As for some topics not being locked, it's nothing personal, and please don't take it that way. We are all volunteers. We aren't getting payed to ...er.... lock topics. If we decide we aren't going to bother to lock a topic, or perhaps we are not completely sure, there's NO obligation to moderators to do so. This is not a job, this is not a requirement. They are players and posters first, and moderators second. They are allowed to have lives outside of Glest.

While I don't know who deleted your soundtrack topic and can't be bothered to scroll through hundreds of lines of moderation logs, the topic was horribly off topic and a bandwidth hog with all those videos, while, at the same time, serving no purpose to the Glest Board. Of course, please don't argue "why didn't other topics get removed then?". That's not a valid discussion. Moderators are allowed to use their own judgment. Of course, I'll admit that the topic shouldn't have been deleted, but rather should have been locked, but the past is the past, so moving on.

As for "making a list of admins that should be completely kicked", I strongly advocate against that. It will end up violating the personal attacks rule, which is a very strong violation of the Glest Board rules. If you have a complaint, you may PM the moderator in question, inquiring why they chose to perform that action, or may PM an administer about their actions. Please do not post such things publicly on the board. You wouldn't like it if we started a topic proposing we ban you, so you shouldn't do likewise.

And this topic here doesn't really serve any use. Unless you can give justification otherwise, this topic may be better off locked.

Though maybe the topic serves any use, if Warlord can argue for his position in this matter and also provide valid reasons for why he thinks some moderators/admins have crossed the line. Never the less I think the moderation is good now. That is my position in this matter.

so let me get it straight. they dont have to read the topic only look at the poster?

OR they dont have to read the topic, just mass lock?

OR they're not getting paid so they like to block and lock all the way?

OR some weak brains are'nt enough to actually choose the right? you said it like this man dont start saying am violating anything with, otherwise you'll be probably saying "take admin complains and shove it up your ass!"

You violated a rule, don`t post useless topics. There is also a rule not to post too serious topics like religion, abortion and politics. You really have to find a fine line between what you can do. Don`t attack the persons, you have had your topic locked, now as guidelines of 2011 moderators and admins have to provide reasons for it. If you find something that you think shouldn`t have been locked then take the arguments the admin/moderator used and refute them, so then we can come to a solution. I support Hagekura, let this matter be and create a arab faction ;) You probably have so much resources and so much inspiration to make one im certain it will be a high quality mod :D

Hagekura and Gabbe have excellent points. I'll be blunt: The offtopic board never had full support when it was created (a majority, yes, but not full support, and it was NOT anticipated to get as spammy or out of hand as several topics there have), and some people still are against its concept today. Personally, I think it could be great if people could not post useless topics (example: Weather, Where you Live, Choices in a Game, etc) or too serious topics that this board has proven itself unable to handle (ie: Politics, abortion, religion). In fact, it's gotten to the point that even the slightest religious hint can be removed before it spurs something on. Don't take it personally, we're just looking out for the better of the board.

If you want to ensure that there's no more limitations placed on the off topic board, PLEASE ensure you think before you hit that "Post" button. Read your post and consider it from some one elses position, namely an Administrators or Moderators.

And no, we don't remove posts based on titles or the poster, so please don't think otherwise.

Cheers,
 Omega

Warlord, as I said on the historical conversation, the way you present problems or points is sloppy and unsupported by facts,

You say this
Quote
"take admin complains and shove it up your ass!"
And it could be put in a far better way that many people would be willing to acknowledge, for example,
I think the way in which topics are locked or not locked is unfair, for example my topic on food, which is here->(link) was locked but this topic on rat eggs was not->(link).
Could any of the moderators please explain what are the rules or limitations on the type of topics you may post?

Or something of this sort, people are far more likely to respond to this more logical type of argument or comment.

i can only think of one problem with the moderation here, and that's the fact that sometimes a moderator isnt around when you need them. there was a porn spam a few days ago, and i tried to report it, but no one was around. this wasnt solved until about 2 hours after i found it! so, it would be nice to have at least one moderator who is online at any given moment ("online" as in "always actively searching the forums").

besides this, the moderation has been rather good. yes, they make mistakes sometimes (they are human, just like the rest of us), but that doesnt mean they are bad moderators.

True, but I think the only way to have a moderator online at any given time would be to appoint a whole lot more of them, and our moderator count is pretty good for the size of the community.  Having too many is probably just as bad as having too few, in my opinion.

Fortunately that won't be a problem in the future, when we upgrade SMF...besides now with that new mod installed, seems like we won't see porn spammers.../less spam bots.

:( I'm pretty sure most people would want to discuss those kind of topics, including me, but unfortunately before there have been many times where it got hectic and people couldn't handle it...
Also of course, no useless topics...

no. it makes me get lost in wondering to know how to dream something with much sense?

answer with clearity. if the soundtrack topic was a spam to ME hen why was'nt it a spam to other community member?

looks like 90% hatred. dont hide it or avoid it or just shutup dont fake the trueth....

looks at it well. first off some topic locked. some of them or nearly ALL of it were'nt complete crap... or relegious, political and abortion. nor offtopic. and actually some other topics of the type were left on their wake and path.

F***ING were not in a chatbox. spamming is like sending crap and completley no taste&pointless or empty messages.... spamming... great. foolish admins are not judging right. so far i (trueth) never seen modrating like this.

The soundtrack topic was locked because there was already a soundtrack topic.  Even if one of your topics that I locked, deleted, or merged, did happen to be useful, there was still a flood of them.  When you post ten topics within two days, of course we're going to deal with all of them indiscriminately.

I feel like I'm beating a dead horse here, but...
Hi all

I looked around a bit in this offtopic forum and I think there are too many useless discussions!
This is mainly the glest board and not a place where:
People publish their political/religious statements, play silly posting games that just fill the board and so on.
Please all try not to do this from now. I don't want to be too restrictive because its the offtopic board, but please try too keep these things in mind.

What I am talking about are things like these:
https://forum.megaglest.org/index.php?topic=5809.0
https://forum.megaglest.org/index.php?topic=5815.0
https://forum.megaglest.org/index.php?topic=5513.0
https://forum.megaglest.org/index.php?topic=5281.0

Please stop this kind of things!

Regards
titi

Upon further investigation:
Well, I never saw it, so don't complain to me. Admins, if you think about deleting this, I'd like to be contacted to discuss first, if I'm not, I'll be pissed.
He had posted about a dozen threads in OT all along the lines of "what do you think about X?", so I did a lot of merging, locking, and/or deleting to stave off the flood.  That most likely included whatever sound track thread he's talking about.  As for you, you're fine.  Carry on.

A. flooded with your other topics
B. Locked before he could get on the forums

John D.H can answer for himself; but didnt you post a lot of "What do you think about X?" topics? So really you violated one rule several times never the less.

Lets just forget this episode and move on, you make a arab faction and we r happy and then you can become a respected member of the community :D

this seems like a good time to say this: Warlord, i know that you have all of these great ideas, but most of them are not listened to because you're not talking about Glest. i mean, you have these ideas such as "morale" and all of those "advanced tactics," but truth is, none of that is in Glest, nor will it probably ever be! if you want a game with morale and advanced tactics, Glest is not the game for you. so, please stop asking for stupid stuff that you know will never happen - this is Glest.

You clearly have no idea how to interact with other human beings.  If you're trying to get people to agree with your position, being a colossal prick is not going to help your case.  With your mindless and childish temper tantrums, you're really making me wonder why we haven't banned you yet.
