Wich CPU to use[AMD Prefebrly].
« on: 23 January 2011, 13:35:21 »
okay, so i am kinda working to get into the market for CPU's again.

Ive always had Intel, and been kinda happy, but I'm kinda tired of the socket changes and the need to buy a new motherboard every time a new processor comes out, not to mention that AMD doesn't lock their CPU's.

So, i am looking for performance, and values, since AMD don't *** around with sockets i want to support them, and i kinda just want advice on the CPU situation and which CPU's to look out for.

[freaky fact on the danish supplier homepage http://www.shg.dk/processorer.htm intel has 15 sockets vs AMD's 5!]

If you are looking for a low and upto mid ranged computer AMD has very good offers and you can get cheap motherbords too.
If you are looking for high end processors I think intel is the best at the moment.

I always buy AMD, because I get more for the money. I think its better if you save your money and upgrade sooner(2 years ).By this you always have a somehow up to date system.

hm, i am building a high end system, so i have to like buy stuff only every 5 year. :)(my current GFX is that old). and perhaps some of the components a little more often, but price is defenetly  becoming a issue since i don't want to spend ALL my money on computer equipment, as exciting as it is :).

You say that Intel has the best high performance ?(this is also my opinion)but what is the difference in performance between a high end AMD and INTEL?.

10-5,1,2% ?

Intel turns amd to goo when it comes to high end. Look at some benchmarks.

Trust me mate, you do not want an AMD processor. AMD has great graphics cards, but the processors, frankly, suck. My last laptop was an AMD processor and it was terrible at times. Intel dominates the CPU market. The i series (i3, i5, and i7) are great, but, I'll let you in on a secret, wait a bit, the new Intel CPU, code named Sandy Bridge, is, to put simply, amazing. A $300 card that can outperform a $1000 card?

Yeah, it will need a new socket though, but worth it for the extreme performance at very low prices.

Of course, should you not want to do that, just buy the best (intel) card you can get. The CPU market is quite small really when you think of it.

Sandy bridge is good yes, but for cheaper you should go AMD (and Omega talks about laptops, wich in general suck) But intel does dominate the good CPU market, the cheaper get-more-for-ure-buck market is still AMD thou.
