Advertise Glest in your region

I think the Glest doesn't have enough popularity it deserves for in gaming community of the world.

It seems in USA and Germany glest has moderate popularity, but at least in my country, glest gets almost no gamer's attention  :'( - this is one of the reasons I began to make japanese faction mod to get japanese gamer's attention - .

I feel Glest can get more people's attention, because of it's high quality and very active developments by community users, also there are a lot of incentive contents for glest already have done by community.　and more than anything else, It's a Free Game!

So I propose you to spread greatness of glest in gamers community in your region by posting in Internet forums, recommend to friends.
I have already posted a topic about glest in a gaming board of 2channel,and presumably I have succeeded in attract some japanese gamers, probably two or three guys.
When I get enough free times,I wish to create a fansite or japanese wiki of glest.
Let's start the mission for Glest!

well, there is a Glest store where you can buy shirts and stuff....it needs to be updated with some of the more modern mods.

A Japanese wiki is a bad idea, in my opinion. We don't have enough people to do the English wiki alone! (as a note, by the way, wikia does support multilanguage on a single wiki, such as you can see at the Runescape Wiki, but I am against it for our community size, as it would result in poor quality and being largely incomplete).

I think if we want to get more attention we need free advertising. This includes websites like Slashdot, except whatever is popular in your region. It would also probably be nice to have translations available for more languages, including support for different character types, such as Japanese, Simplified Chinese, etc. This would need a few changes to the engine probably though, and specific fonts would have to be used for that one language.

The majority do. Abet, one problem I often see is that Glest outranks its forks majorly in popularity, and as a result, many people don't even get to learn of its forks and how much better they are, as many won't even visit the site, and the rest might try and request a feature/complain the game is too hard/report a bug/etc that is already solved in one of our forks. The forks could use some more advertising, particularly GAE, which has very very little advertising outside of the forum.

Yeah,of course I advertised mainly GAE and Megaglest,since there is no advantage to stay in vanilla Glest,I understand it.I recommended japanese friends to use GAE or Megaglest.

Making japanese fansite or wiki has a huge benefits for japanese gamers than you have imagined.
because of the main reason Glest avoided by japanese gamers is a language barrier.most of japanese gamers can't read english. but It will requires a lot of efforts and probably I couldn't do that for a while.
I hope I could translaste MG or GAE to japanese,but It seems both forks doesn't support 2byte characters yet. I have seen some chinese tried to translate it and the attempt was not succeed(I'm sorry if I was wrong).

Yeah the reason MG is more popular now, is because we have spent a lot of time spreading the word about it...although there haven't been many US sites yet about MG, hopefully there will be. Just spend sometime spreading the word...that's what I did, and others too.

Actually in the US MegaGlest isn't that popular, It's mainly popular with Germans, Russians, and Brazilians because that is where news successfully got out so far.

Hmm...I've seen some Japanese sites talk about MG, although I suppose it was just a forum thread.

Yes, a few of japanese sites have introduced glest in their pages in the past. like the sites below:

but most of they are written when both GAE and MG didn't exist, and fairly outdated. I thought I have to provide newer informations about glest forks and mods.

I think it could become popular in China since Warcraft 3 is huge here and MG/GAE are free which would go alone way.  The major problem with even talking about it here is that there is no Chinese version (right?).

as i said, the best way to advertise Glest is to get a shirt or some buttons and wear them around!
