Run the game from commandline and paste the output:
cd ~/megaglest
./glest

Edit glestuser.ini and add / replace the video settings with this:

Code: [Select]
ColorBits=16
ScreenHeight=600
ScreenWidth=800

If that works you can try different settings in the 'options' menu which 'should' show other video modes supported by your video card.

Next version will set the default resolution to 800x600, so this issue should no longer occur - unless people try to play with even smaller netbook / tablet resolutions.

Ugh, is there any way to check for the default resolution on the operating system (I thought it did this, but looks like it doesn't)? I'm not entirely sure what the defaults are anymore, but if it starts in fullscreen at 800x600, a non-tech experienced user may be wondering why the quality is so low. And even if that defaults to windowed mode, they might wonder why the window is so small (since the window can't be resized by dragging the corners, that could frustrate the non-techie).

Likewise, windows seems to have a bug (?) where if you play a game on full screen that is smaller resolution than your current resolution, the desktop icons rearrange themselves to that new resolution, and don't go back when the program closes and the original resolution returns (if it wasn't for fences, I would have gone insane by now).

about auto resolution detection:
Works on many if not in most computers, but it is switched off becasue there are enough computer which report unsupported resolutions too and people with intel onboard cards which really should not try to run glest at 1980x1400 or something like this  ::)

About the windows mode reset problem, it might be possible. Anymoone else has these problems?

Why can't we use those resolutions? Sure, it's the oddest resolution I've ever heard of, but what stops Glest from supporting them? I recall that Glest (or at least GAE, haven't really tried MG in full screen) supports widescreen resolutions now. At the very least, couldn't you check for the resolutions they support and display the best one they do support? So for the computer running 1980x1400, it could display 1920x1080 (16:9) or 1836x1492 (4:3).
