Indians VS Tech
« on: 11 March 2011, 00:03:08 »
The Indians are WAY too powerful against Tech at just 2.0 AI difficulty.

It's their spawn-rate.  Too high!  I can't even beat it past the first wave after an hour of tries!

Either the spawn-rate needs to be reduced, or their units need to be weaker.

Actually not really...all you really need to get is a lot of battlemachines.
Try joining the megaglest lobby, and we'll have a game...and beat a couple of ultra Indians  :O

Ah, well that makes sense.

So, from the start, I should just focus on building buildings so that I can get technicians...

Thanks, now I'm not so pissed.

Well, I'm not sure for 1 vs 1...but basically for that 1st attack the cpus, 1 to 2 people produce swordsmen and 1 to 2 people produce archers...then most people get battlemachines...but you still need some archers...

Basically battlemachines' arrow attack is really good.

I tried some multiplayer, and someone used the battlemachine trick, I no longer want to play MG multiplayer. :| That trick is a turn-off for me.

Yeah...I suppose technically that strategy shouldn't be used in human vs human games since it's kinda not fair, although it's not impossible to win against tons of battlemachines. It's just very hard.  :-X I think you could have attacked your opponent's base with air though, a lot of peoples' bases are very open with no air defense.
But since most of the time I play co-op against the cpus, I think it's ok. Especially when try produce twice the amount of units (per CPU) when they have 2x to 3x...ultras. And for Megas, this ultimately applies.

Wow, nice video example.  I never thought of using the battlemachine arrow attack so extensively.

@ Archmage

What about the Persian Elephants?  How do those fare against Battle Machines?

The arrows are especially useful against the Indians because they are very vulnerable to piercing attacks.

For elephants, since battlemachines have arrows, they are technically weaker...but if you have other good units to back them up, they're a good match. Especially with others units from other factions.
Here's another good video of battlemachines...even though I wasn't against Indian, but you get the idea. I produced 36 or so battlemachines and then killed 2 cpu ultras (but only 1.5x)2x would have been more fun/challenging, but I was playing with someone else and he was kinda a newbie to MG.

Actually, it's all in the skill. I can beat a ultra CPU on any MegaPack faction using any other MegaPack faction, and can generally take out mega CPU's as well. I would prefer magic over tech, but tech can easily beat the indians, and I have done it before.

Well, I think in the past pathfinding/AI/other things (forgot...) have been improved in MG, so it's a bit harder in MG...
Which is why for the past months Ultras are now 2x default, and megas or 3x...instead of 3x and 4x. 3x and 4x ultras and megas aren't impossible, they're just much more fun/challenging.

Would someone be kind enough to write up a short strategy guide on beating the Indians with Tech on Ultra?  Or, perhaps make an ingame video?

Maybe I'll make a video, later. You mean against a Ultra Tech CPU? Shouldn't be too hard. Here's what I usually do.
(click to show/hide)
Edit: oh, you mean with tech...produce swordsmen and archers in the beginning of the game. Later on just get a lot of battlemachines and airships. Turtle with defense towers too.l Build backup Castles.

Thanks guys!  Yeah, I'm starting to get the hang of it.  I've upped the CPU difficulty a few notches.

I've found that putting horseman into the mix really helps.  They're wonderful for skirmishes and quick defensive maneuvers.

After I get a few waves of battlemachines into the indians, I can usually start pounding the buildings and workers.

Then my backup wave comes, and they're done for.
