Your first computer

The other thread about operating systems made me nostalgic
And great performance wise, heck, it doesn`t need 1GB just for the boot up! :-X If it had DX11 support i would be using it all day/night long.

windows 95/98 was my favorite generation of OS. I miss my old DOS games. Next would be XP that's what I currently use (aside from my MAC which i want to install xp on) and probably will for the next ten years =P! I did have an windows 3.1 machine as well, and a laptop that just ran DOS. My first computer. Good times...
my first computer was a Sinclair zx81 which I had to share with my brother who hogged it. You plugged it into a tv and the screen was white with black text. To play a game you had to write the game first and often it crashed so you lost everything. I think you could save on a tape but basically you lost everything all the time. To play a game like space invades it used text characters for the graphics

The keyboard was way cooler than modern ones

I think we got a 186 after that with CGA (16 color). CGA is so old this app just sutocorrected it to VGA

I honestly cannot remember. It was a very very old desktop, windows 95, and almost no hard drive space at all. We barely used it though, in all honesty.

We do have a commodore 64 in the basement though, but it's missing some of its cords.

This was my first computer! A huge heavy laptop. This beast was heaver then my 7.5 pound laptop

Couldn't access hard drive so everything i did on it was saved to floppy disks. It had 3 color display white, brown, and blue. It had DOS but also had a strange little Gui for DOS called Tandy DeskMate.

I no longer have the machine but still have the discs as well as my games. NINJA, Striker, Flightmare was my favorites.

Now I don't feel so bad for starting out in the early '90s on a Win3.1 machine with a 60MHz CPU. :look:

my first computer was a Sinclair zx81 which I had to share with my brother who hogged it.

My first computer was the ZX Spectrum too (kinda showing my age here :) )

All games had to be loaded from tapes which took anywhere from a couple of minutes up to about 30!! Meanwhile the screen would flash colours and make a static-y noise (oh the nostalgia).

Therer were some great little games for it; Spy hunter, Jet Set Willy, Pedro's Panic, Booty, Knight Lore, Saboteur, SabreWulf to name a few  ;D

Oh my heart weeps!

The ZX81 was a classic, and with the 16K RAM expansion on the back it was a monster at 3.25MHz!

I remember it fondly.

BBC micro was another classic, although in a different price bracket to the ZX81.  It beating heart lives on today - in your phone.  All your phones.  Its called the ARM microprocessor.
